"I hereby bet Tony Hawks the sum of one hundred pounds that he cannot hitch hike round the circumference of Ireland, with a fridge, within one calendar month."

And that about sums it up.

One of my favourite books of all time, genuinely funny, wonderfully well-written and sublimely ridiculous.

My first copy, having done the rounds of friends and family, went BC'ing of its own accord a few years back, my second I'm clinging onto for dear life. The third copy to pass through my hands was especially procured for BC'er Gameface in CA, and this, the fourth (who said that BookCrossing cuts down on sales for authors???) I've picked up for Psikopat, aka Dut in France, as part of a translatory-trade experiment extravaganza...I really hope you enjoy it! :O)

Also, Tony Hawks has a rather good website...the skateboarding Q&A is particularly enlightening...;O)

I have found the book today at noon in my letter box.
Thanks so much for the home-made bookmark you put inside.
I just gave a look. It looks rather funny, but I think it will take me a pretty long time to achieve the whole reading.

More comment as soon as possible.

gottit! aargh it never rains but it pours! they are all arriving at once - my third BC book this week!
Will try to get it moving quickly. Thanks happy-hippie, I'm hoping this will revive some of my memories of Ireland (I hitchhiked there with three friends when we were 18 - not all round it, just the east side, but it was difficult enough - oh those empty roads and the rain that goes right through your waterproof clothes to your skin).

PS the skateboarding thing is hilarious: thanks lucycat!

A quick read – lighthearted and entertaining, quite funny in places; it is always refreshing to discover someone with a sense of humour similar to my own. It revived many memories, especially those lovely, friendly Irish people. I would perhaps have liked to know more about the places he visited, and getting all those lifts thanks to the radio was a bit of a fluke – I will never forget one road in Ireland, south of Dublin, where we were passed by only two cars in eight hours! We walked and walked and walked, in the rain. Dug around in my old photo box and found my picture of Bets, Linda, Jean and me, in Glendalough forest.
It was funny to see my home town, Middlesbrough, mentioned several times in this book, but I wish he had spelled it properly.
Mrrr asked to come later, so it will probably go to Trelk next.

Je l'ai envoyé à Sambruck il y a une dizaine de jours déjà et j'avais oublié de le signaler.

Il va probablement faire sa JE à son retour des tranchées.
