Journal Entry 3 by PostMuse at Mailed to a fellow book-crosser! in Norwell, Massachusetts USA on Sunday, June 1, 2003
Released on Sunday, June 01, 2003 at Mailed to a fellow book-crosser! in Norwell, Massachusetts USA.
I don't usually make release notes for controlled releases, but I've decided that doing so for rays is a good way to get more participants since they show up in the sidebar. This was mailing out to Portugal a while back, and should be received soon. Please PM me to be added to the list.

it has arrived here in lisbon today! thank you so much...
after TOO MANY months sitting in my TBR list (too many bookrings and rays, i guess you've all been there), i finally took the time to read this "novel of suspense".
well, i didn't find too much suspense in it, which took me a bit by surprise, although i'm in no way an expert on thrillers. There were too many details to match to reach the conclusion that was proposed on the first stages of the book.
it's a little besides the point, but i have to point out that i don't think this book would survive a feminist analysis, for all the women are described in quite sexist terms.
with regards to the irish background, it is most interesting in the academic knowledge it shares. at first i was trying to see a connection with irish politics, but despite some obvious refernces, i don't think that was the point. then... why should it be?
finally, i found the language fascinating, in as much as it pays a lot of attention to dialect, and comes forward with a daring (and most successful) attempt to picture precise aspects not only in phonetics, but also in terms of syntax. i must confess that although i lived in ireland for a few years at times i had to concentrate a lot to understand it all.
it will travel fast to germany now, i promise...
thank you zmrzlina dna herrundmeyer, for your patience.

Well, I must say I really enjoyed this book. I second mfa's opinion that the storyline as such is not that good, but the language and the setting are very nice. I spent seven months in Dublin as an exchange student (not at Trinity College, though) and thoroughly enjoyed the Dublin accent in writing.
I'm not sure if I should release the book into the wild (in a local Irish pub, for example), because it is an uncorrected proof. I might pass it on to a friend of mine who studied at Trinity College for one year.
Update: I've passed it on to my friend who studied "Celtic Interest" at Trinity ;-)
