A Bride for Donnigan (Women of the West Series)
3 journalers for this copy...
For such a long time, I've kept my Oke books in my personal collection as they've meant so much to me over the years. I grew up reading about Marty & Clarks struggles in the Love Comes Softly Series - as well as Elizabeth and Wynn in the Canadian West Series (and so many others!). Each book touched something in me during my teen years, and I've cherished my collection of Oke books, which were a gift from my Grandmother, bless her soul. I finally decided they were meant for much more than sitting here on my bookshelves, and should be shared with others. Perhaps they will touch anothers lives, and they did mine.

Responding to an Advertisement, She Crossed an Ocean to Meet a Total Stranger and Became a Mail-Order Bride-
Kathleen O'Malley stood on the deck of the Barreth Lily and watched the land she'd called home for more than a dozen years slip from her view. She had thought she would be glad to see the last of it, but she was not. Emotions in turmoil, her whole being yearned to slip from the ship and return to what she knew. Even though Kathleen had not been happy with her situation, it was all she had ever known. As the shoreline faded into the morning mist, her only certainty was that she was bound for America to marry a man whose name she did not even know and whose face she had never seen.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Donnigan Harrison anxiously awaits Kathleen's arrival on a prairie farm far from her port of arrival in Boston. He has known the wonder of a dream fulfilled a snug frame cabin, the sturdy log barn and outbuildings, a fine herd of livestock, and crops in the field that made his eyes sparkle. Yet Donnigan felt a loneliness on the western frontier that pierced his very soul. With so limited opportunities for finding a wife, the notion of ordering a wife that once seemed unthinkable had come to make some sense. Now that the time has come, Donnigan feels like a small boy waiting for Christmas.
But Donnigan's anticipation is overshadowed with terrifying uncertainties What have I done? And that question is echoed in Kathleen's heart as she nears the po

This book has been mailed to Oklahoma!
I have not yet gotten the chance to read this book and yet it is one that I definitely want to read someday. I am moving back to the states and will live with my parents in Oklahoma for several months before moving on to the Washington D.C. area. In that time, I am sure that I will want to read some books and so I used media mail to get books from here to there rather economically. It might take this book a while to get there but when it does get there I will journal it again and hope that I get the chance to read it soon.
(This book is in Box #4)

I had left this book in Oklahoma because I didn't have any more room in the car when I moved last fall. I also thought that my sister might like to read the books but alas she never got a chance to. So this time when I went to Oklahoma for a visit I made sure to leave room in the van to bring back books.

One of my favorite features of BookCrossing is the opportunity to track books where ever they may go. We just moved from Waldorf, MD to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C. and it is time to update each book's location and make sure that we have located each book after the move.
I am trying to set the status of all my books to be correct at this time.
Permanent Collection (PC) means that I plan to keep this book for the foreseeable future.
Available (AVL) means that I have read the book or don't desire to read the book and it is ready to move on in some fashion.
To Be Read (TBR) means that I plan to read it (at least someday) and after I read it I will decide what to do with it.
I reserve the right to change my mind at any time!

I love this author! Over the years I collected and read all of her books. This book in the Women of the West series of independent stand alone books is not my absolute favorite though. I found it on my shelf mixed with the others and decided that it was time for it to move along.
I know that I read this book years and years ago as I knew some of the details but how forgetful my memory is as I did not remember just how it went. The Mail-Order Bride idea is one that holds an interest for me. I am always amazed that people would do this and the situations that unfold are often interesting. In this case there is a rocky start that is riddled with misunderstandings and false notions about each other. Oh the life that they could have had if they would have just communicated with one another.
Of course, Janette Oke's goal is to show a coming to God and religion and that part of the book holds a little less interest for me. I can't say that I really believe and I am always skeptical when people find religion.
I hope that this book finds a new good home soon!
