Classic Victorian and Edwardian Ghost Stories
10 journalers for this copy...
I found this in a local charity shop and thought it looked great - but as my TBR is pretty high I am going to ring it first and hopefully read it after it comes back to me.

RELEASE NOTES:
If you have found this book, thank you for taking the time to look it up on the internet. Now please tell us what you thought of the book and what your plans for it are.
Received safely today and will be into this once once I've finished my current read. I'm so looking forward to delving into these ghostly pages that only a bedtime read can do justice to... even if the print is quite small. Oh well, eye strain is an occupational hazard every now and then!
Thanks Heaven-Ali :-)
Finished this today and thoroughly enjoyed it. A refreshing genre from my usual modern fiction and the language so sets the scene. A variety of authors with some stories more enjoyable than others. My favourites have to be The Canterville Ghost (Oscar Wilde and quite humourous!), The Traveller's Story of a Terribly Strange Bed (Wilkie Collins), To Be Taken With a Grain of Salt (Dickens) and An Account of Some Strange Disturbances in Aungier Street (Sheridan).
Thanks for the opportunity of reading this Heaven-Ali. I've PMd Tanamo for address details.
Posted 1st class to Tanamo today.
Safely received today and added to the ring jam I have here at the moment. Will try to get to it as soon as I can. Why is it that ring books are like buses and always arrive in groups and then you don't get any for ages?
I enjoyed this collection of tales. My favourite was "The Phantom Coach". I pm'd Arabella Figg for her address and have mailed the book off to her today.
Book arrived yesterday, thanks Tanamo. Will start it as soon as I've finished current read.
Haven't been able to read this as I've been a bit busy, didn't want to stall the bookring any longer so have posted it on to Haugtussa. I hope they enjoy it. :)
The book arrived today. Thanks for passing it on.
Edited the 8th of September - I've started the reading the book, but for some reason it is a bit slow... but I'm getting there.
I've finally managed to finish this book - it has taken me some time to finish this book and to be perfectly honest I do not really understand why. I love ghost stories, I love Victorian novels and some of my favourite authors are represented in this book.
The stories I liked the best were:
The Traveller's Story of a Terrible Strange Bed by Wilkie Collins. I do love Wilkie Collins' book The Woman in White and I was really looking forward to read this story. I was not dissapionted. I thik the reason I liked the story was that it was actually believable!
The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde. What is there to say? Oscar Wilde is just brilliant! I loved this short storiy and the discriptions of the differnce between the way the Americans and the British handle a ghost in their house! The idea of getting the ghost lubricating oil for it's chains! - well that made me laugh! I'll probably use this story with my students.
Laura by Saki. I've never read anything by Saki before and this short story was another one that made me laugh. I though it was well written and had a nice twist to it.
Strange the way these ghost stories make me laugh instead of scare me!
WEll thanks again Heaven-Ali for arganizing this ring. I already have the next persons address, so I'll get it in the mail tomorrow. (Also thanks for your patience with my slow reading!)
This arrived today. Thanks for sending it, Haugtussa!
I'm busy with another ring at the moment, but I'll read this one straight after that.
Update 28 November: I've started this now and have read a few of the stories so far. I'll try to finish it soon.
I've had this book way too long, I'm so sorry! I got a bit distracted in December and haven't recovered yet. I did read a number of the stories: I enjoyed The Canterville Ghost and The Spectre of Tappington the most.
Thanks so much, Heaven-Ali, for the opportunity to read this book!
Heaven-Ali kindly said I could keep the book a bit longer, so I had a chance to read a few more stories! Like some of the others, I enjoyed Sheridan Le Fanu's An Account of Some Strange Disturbances in Aungier Street, which was the only story that actually gave me trouble sleeping ;)
I also liked MR James' A School Story, and Dickens' The Tale of the Bagman's Uncle.
Of the "true" stories at the back of the book, I found the second one quite intriguing and disturbing.
Thanks again, Heaven-Ali. I posted this back to you this afternoon. I hope it arrives safely!

By airmail.
Arrived back with me today - to join a pretty huge mnt tbr. I think this would be a nice one to release at the UK unconvention in July - so I'll try and read it before then. Thanks for the lovely postcard of table mountain.
I had wanted to read this, as it does look good - but my TBR is horrendous so I am setting this as AVL for now - so maybe someone else can read and enjoy it.

I was at my child's nursery and there were a few books free to a good home, looked through and found it, thought my Mum would like to read then noticed it was a book crossing book.
