Moore's first AND his first about good old Pine Cove, the scene of Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove and others...I'm looking forward to reading it...

Journal Entry 2 by 2of3Rs from Hillsboro, Oregon USA on Monday, March 31, 2008
This is Moore's first book. I kind of wish I'd read it before I read Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, as this gives some backstory to Pine Cove, where both books are set. This tells the story of Travis, the keeper of Catch, the demon who, after being released from hell, tends to eat people when he's hungry. When they arrive in Pine Cove, Catch sees more meal opportunities in its inhabitants. Travis, however, realizes he might be able to rid himself of his demon responsibilities, and plots to do so, involving some of the residents of Pine Cove, some unwittingly.

Laugh out loud funny, this is a great way to be introduced to Moore...

It's here! I received this book in the mail on Wednesday. I don't have any other books I have to finish before starting this one, so it's up next! This is my first ray/ring ever, and I can't wait to see how things go.

Journal Entry 5 by Camethyste from Vancouver, Washington USA on Friday, April 18, 2008
The first chapter had me wondering if I was going to need a dictionary at hand while reading this book. It seemed like the author was trying to jam in as many big words as he could.

There were a lot of characters to keep track of. It was a bit hard to follow at times and I found myself searching backwards to find characters to remind myself of how they fit into the story. The end was a bit anticlimactic.

I enjoyed the book and it was a fairly quick read.

I intend to send this on to the next reader, chambejd, within the next couple of days.

RELEASE NOTES:

I've mailed this to chambejd of Massachusetts, USA. Happy Reading!

Journal Entry 7 by chambejd from Millbury, Massachusetts USA on Monday, April 28, 2008

Journal Entry 8 by chambejd from Millbury, Massachusetts USA on Friday, June 6, 2008
I'm so sorry to have kept this for so long! I finally finished it tonight and enjoyed it. My boyfriend read it a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it though he says it wasn't one of his favorites of Moore's. This is going in the mail tomorrow to ivylibra. Thanks again for letting me read it!

Journal Entry 9 by ivylibra224 from Kimberling City, Missouri USA on Monday, June 23, 2008
OOOPS! I see that I forgot to post when I received this little gem! Anyway, it's been read and is ready to send on. I wasn't as impressed with this one as with his later titles, but I still want to read more Moore!

Journal Entry 10 by prollacct from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Monday, July 21, 2008
This will be my first read by Moore. Looking forward to it, although I will not get to it until I finish my current library book.

Journal Entry 11 by prollacct from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Sunday, July 27, 2008
Well, I'm a little more than half way through and it's definitely enjoyable. I may look for more books by this author. Already pm'ed for next address. Will journal again when I'm finished.

Journal Entry 12 by prollacct from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Friday, August 1, 2008
Finished and already have the next addy. This will go off in the morning. An enjoyable read and easy to follow. I liked how several chapters were dedicated to telling one individual's story and it was easy to remember who the lesser characters were by looking for the chapter titled with their name. I'll definitely read more by Moore if I come across them.

On it's way!

Journal Entry 14 by grubsneerg from Greensburg, Pennsylvania USA on Thursday, August 14, 2008
Received this in today's mail. This is my first Christopher Moore book, too, and it is next on my TBR list. Thanks for sending, prollacct, and for sharing, smilingheron!

Journal Entry 15 by grubsneerg from Greensburg, Pennsylvania USA on Thursday, August 28, 2008
Since this was my first Christopher Moore book, I had nothing to compare it to, but I enjoyed it thoroughly, laughing and snickering through many scenes and chapters. If his later books are indeed better, as some of the previous journallers indicate, I'll be sure to track them down. I have PMed msjoanna for her address and will send this on its way as soon as I hear from her.

This has arrived in NYC. I'm looking forward to reading this as many people have recommended this author and I haven't managed to snag any of his other books yet.

Journal Entry 18 by msjoanna from Columbia, Missouri USA on Monday, October 6, 2008
As other reviewers have pointed out, this book was heavy on characters. But rather than feeling lost, I felt sucked into the stories of the people of Pine Cove and was completely taken with Moore's writing style. Since most readers seem to agree that this isn't his best book, I'll definitely look for other books by this author. Humorous and light reading, recommended for late nights, travel, and other times of low concentration and frequent interruption.

The book is now in the mail to innae in Colorado.

Whooo Hoooo!! This book arrived today. I will finish the Angel book I am in the middle of and get reading this one! Thank you!!

Journal Entry 20 by winginnaewing from Aurora, Colorado USA on Wednesday, October 22, 2008
I took this with me to a conference in Colorado Springs, and then off to Houston to visit my husband. I finished it on the way home last night! And I just love Moore. His stories are fun, and scary, and wonderful. I am keeping all the rest of his books on my wishlist/tbr list. I LOVE MOORE!!

Thanks to smilingheron for this ring! I have Cross-Patch's address and will be mailing this off this week!

Journal Entry 21 by winginnaewing from Aurora, Colorado USA on Saturday, October 25, 2008
I mailed this out Thursday morning, with out enough postage (because I am dumb) -- so, I am hoping the book comes back to me so I can remedy my error, however -- as it is now Saturday, and no book, I am thinking it is on its way to Cross-patch, and I will owe them some $. Sigh. I apologize to everyone before me for screwing up the ring (I am really hoping it doesn't just languish at the post office) - and to everyone beyond me for being dumb. (sigh .. it was one of those days, that lasted a couple days..)

Stop fretting, lass, it's here - and no surcharge. Thanks to all before me for getting the ring this far, especially smilingheron for the offer in the first place.

This truly is good escapism, and I have needed that lately - I am doing jury service at the moment and it is proving difficult to find time and energy to read. Posted to Scruffykaz today.

Journal Entry 26 by RonOren from Wassenaar, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Tuesday, May 5, 2009
Just arrived and really looking forward to it. I'm still finishing a couple of other books, though, so it'll probably take me a few days to get started in this one.

Journal Entry 27 by RonOren from Wassenaar, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, May 9, 2009
I thought that was quite enjoyable, but not much more than that. A nice, easy read, but quite forgettable in the end. I'd expected something more, although I'm a bit hard put to say exactly what it lacked. Maybe it's humour that I felt lacked: while it's clearly a wacky story, it's not openly sarcastic nor riddled with puns. Why exactly I would've expected this, I'm not sure; yet I did and it didn't quite deliver.

Hmm, I don't want this to sound like I didn't enjoy reading the book. I'd say that Christopher Moore is a perfectly fine author. This book is just one of those one can take along on holiday for an easy read. "Escapism", as one of the earlier jorunalers termed it actually described it quite well. Still, I enjoyed that, so thanks for sharing the book, 2of3Rs! I have WelshHelen's address from an earlier bookring and will send her the book soon.

The book arrived safe and sound. Since I see I am the last person on the list I will first finish my current books before I get to this one.

Journal Entry 33 by samulli from Weimar, Thüringen Germany on Wednesday, July 8, 2009
I finally got around to read the book now. It was a fast and quite enjoyable read, but even though some of his ideas are quite entertaining, I am afraid I still don't get what the fuss about Moore is. I did smile a couple of times while reading the story, but for me it is miles away from laugh-out-loud-funny (my gold standard for that are still Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, and I have to say Moore is not even close to being in their league). But neither was it boring, so at least that's something. :-)
I don't think I will bother to actively seek out more books by Moore, but I might pick up another one if I should stumble upon it somewhere.

Since I am the last person on the ray I am waiting on word from 2of3Rs about what to do with the book now.

I had much fun reading Practical Demonkeeping. At the beginning I had problems coming into the story and it was a little abstract, but it became very funny and worth reading at the end (-;

Let's see who's next on the list...
