RELEASE NOTES:

Heading off as a RABCK to the USA

Journal Entry 3 by cbostler from Sandy, Utah USA on Saturday, April 19, 2008
"When We Were Very Young" is a collection of poems written by A.A. Milne during the 1920's. The book was reprinted in 1962, and its aged appearance matches the antique-flavored poetry and illustrations.

My favorite poem from the collection is called "Teddy Bear."
I can relate to the thoughts and feelings of a overstuffed bear!

"A bear, however hard he tries,
Grows tubby without exercise.
Our Teddy Bear is short and fat,
Which is not to be wondered at.
But do you think it worries him
To know that he is far from slim?
No, just the other way about-
He's proud of being short and stout."

Thanks for sharing this book of poems with me, Smurphie.

Journal Entry 4 by oakcrest-eagles from West Jordan, Utah USA on Sunday, May 4, 2008
Mrs. Ostler read several of the poems from this book to her second graders at Oakcrest. The children listened respectfully, but prefer the poems of contemporary writers like Jack Prelutsky and Shel Silverstein.

Journal Entry 5 by oakcrest-eagles from West Jordan, Utah USA on Saturday, May 24, 2008
Mrs. Ostler and the Oakcrest Eagles will be mailing a RABCK package to Hostile17 in Osgood, Indiana.
This book is one of the gifts that will be included. It's special because it came all the way to Utah from Scotland, and because it is an "antique."
We hope that she enjoys it.

The poem on page 98 is called, "If I were King.
This is a typical stanza:
"If I were King of Timbuctoo,
I'd think of lovely things to do."

We wrote some lines of our own in preparation for the release of this book.
If I were King of Indiana,
I'd give Hostile a ripe banana.
(Hadley)

If I were King of Indiana,
Hostile17 would wear a red bandana.
(Abigail)

If I were King of Indiana,
Everyone would listen to Santana.
(Jared)

If I were King of Osgood,
I'd be very, very, very good.
(Khylen)

If I were King with Hostile17,
She would be the royal queen.
(Emma)

Thank you again, Smurphie, for sharing WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG with us. We look forward to hearing about its future travels.
From cbostler and Oakcrest-Eagles.

Journal Entry 12 by JennyC1230 at Woodstock, Georgia USA on Monday, August 2, 2010
I read this book while the box was here.

My favorite poem:

The Mirror

Between the woods the afternoon
Is fallen in a golden swoon
The sun looks down from quiet skies
To where a quiet water lies,

And silent trees stoop down to trees.
And there I saw a white swan make
Another white swan in the lake;
And, breast to breast, both motionless,
They waited for the wind's caress...
And all the water was at ease.

This book stopped here for a short visit in Woodstock, Georgia. It is still travelling in princess-peapod's Spring ABC Bookbox.

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control."
