This is a series of 14 short stories, all beautifully written, each set in a different place and time. If you have read the Memory Keeper's Daughter, you will be familiar with the author's writing style. I enjoyed this book ... I think the fact that each story was quite different, made the whole reading experience pretty special for me.

I am planning on book-ringing this. The book weighs just over 300 gms and has 255 pgs.

What to do:

1. Journal an entry on receiving the book.
2. Journal an entry when you've read the book.
3. PM the next person on the list for address and check if they are there before sending.(Let me know if you haven't heard from them after 10 days.)
4. Make release notes when the book finally leaves you.

Try to read the book within a month (but don't stress if it takes longer!)

Happy reading! :o)

I enjoyed all the stories in this collection. All were different, but all were beautifully written. It's the first book I've read by this author but now want to read The Memory Keeper's Daughter.

Thanks for sharing Carole888

I have Pm'ed bookworm 76 and will post it as soon as I have an address.

This was really an unusual collection of short stories. Some were really different. This book was definately not what I expected.

As usual some stories are better than others but overall I gave it a 9.

Passing on to the next person on the list.

I received this book in today's mail. The package was torn completely open on 2 sides, so I thought for sure whatever I found inside would be damaged. The book still looks great, though. Thank goodness someone at the post office thought to put a rubber band around the package when it ripped open to hold the book inside!

I will start reading this within the next couple of days. I have to finish up one bookring book that I received before this one, but it won't take long. Thank you Carole888 for sharing with us!

I really expected to enjoy these stories more than I did because I loved The Memory Keeper's Daughter, written by the same author. Some of the stories were okay, but there were one or two that I couldn't even finish reading. The stories that I did start to enjoy all seemed to have a kind of abrupt ending, which made them not as enjoyable to me in the end.

Thank you very much for sending this book. It has arrived safely!

14.07.: A collection of 14 stories that are all vastly different in their time and setting. However, there is one thread through the book: being different. All stories in some way or another deal with being different or the same in one's society – the preacher's daughter who doesn't want to get involved in preaching and protesting, the Japanese wife in America, the gold-digger, the lady who's been living as a foreigner for more than 30 years without assimilating and learning about the local culture, etc…

This is a fantastic collection of short stories. I actually liked all of the stories, but I was taken most by "Spring, Mountain, Sea". The mixed-culture family life, the struggle of two languages and cultures within one family, is particularly interesting for me as my son, too, grows up in two cultures and with two languages and as I, too, live and continue my traditions in a different country.

I have to admit I struggled through the first two short stories and finally decided to give up on this book:( The stories were well-written but I just didn't find them interesting enough to keep on reading. I've seen rave reviews for this book everywhere I've looked so I guess it must be me;-)

Thanks for sharing anyway Carole888:-]

I already have Nagwan's address and should be able to send her the book by Tuesday.
