A short and quick read.
The book is a mix of memory & fiction told in 3 parts. The first are the author's memories from growing up, the second is from his adult perpective trying to piece together clues about his parents when he returns to their homeland. And the third is a fictional love story written to fill in the gaps.
I must admit I don't know a huge amount about the Czech History referred to in the book, but I found it rather intriguing to the point where I would like to find out more.
I also liked the memories about his Mum and Dad from the perspective of being a young boy and his Dad is easy to like & admire.
I was wondering why the third part had been written as I entered into it, however as it got going I could see how it pulled the story together.
There are some quite shocking & devatating parts to the story, especially when you remember that most of the facts are true.
Definately enjoyable.

A fascinating insight into the lives of a family living in Prague during the 2nd WWar and lately the effects on their relationships in the USA. I liked the way the author describes his early life and completed the book fictionally which was very credible. Having been to Prague recently I could picture the grim life people led there half a century ago andd loved reading this story very much.
