The Sparrow
Blink
The Handmaid's Tale
Sunrise on Kusatsu Harbor

Please take only one or two books out of the box and replace it/them with the same number of books. Please add a JE for this little journal as well as the book(s) you take out of the box.

If you find junk in the box, please send a PM to me right away!

In this online journal, tell us what one or two books you took as well as the titles of the books you are putting in the box.

Remember, don't you dare EVEN THINK ABOUT putting any junk into the box! If in doubt, send a PM to me or e-mail to "kim at prescottkim dot com."

This is my first bookbox -- starting or participating. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Cut and pasted from original thread:
So how do I define “junk?”
**Books with pages falling out, mold, water damage, stains, rips, brittle pages, etc.
The starting books are either brand new or in very good shape. (Okay, the exception being Pillars which I slept on during a recent flight – no reflection on the quality of the story! But it’s still in pretty good shape.) Bubble-wrap used inside box.
**Romance books
**Thrillers or mysteries over 5 years old
**Technical or reference books such as How to Soup Up Your Harley, Vista for Dummies, text books, almanacs, travel books, cookbooks (though I collect them), etc.
**Self-Help books
**Children’s books (Good YA/young adult is okay, as with ‘The Book Thief”)
**Cheesy sci-fi (Hmmm, I realize this is open to interpretation, and “Sparrow” is considered in the sci-fi genre, BUT…)
**Religious-themed books (Not that they are ‘junk’, but they can be offensive to some.)

Rules:
-- When you receive the box, make a JE for the little homemade journal that will be included in the box.
--When you receive the box, send a PM to the next participant on the list in order to obtain mailing info.
--If you experience any kind of problem, please send an e-mail to the Queen of the DETAI Bookbox: kim-at-prescottkim-dot-com.
;-)
--Please don’t keep the box longer than two weeks.
--Take ONLY ONE OR TWO BOOKS from the box. Make a journal entry for it/them ASAP. Replace with the same number of books. As nice as it would be, we don’t want the box to grow; postage is too high! Mail via media mail or whatever way makes you comfortable.
--If the cardboard box becomes damaged, please replace it.
--Enjoy!

Such a delicious bookbox--the Praline Cheesecake or Creme Brulee of bookboxes--it's the sort of bookbox that makes me want to sink into it and not come up for air until I've read every book inside. I am tempted by 9 of the 10 books (I have the Handmaid's Tale downstairs--but this copy is nicer so I guess I'm even tempted by the 10th.) But there are rules about that. In fact, I just broke a rule thinking about breaking a rule. ;) I was going to just take Three Cups of Tea and Pillars of the Earth, but now I don't know what to do. I've read the back covers of each and am chanting the title of the box as some twisted mantra. I will dig back in tonight with a cup of hot tea and bit of chocolate and sniff the bindings while I chose my next two friends.

Thank you so much for the gift. How did you know I had been eyeballing that bag for months. I have the big yellow one in my car full of books to release, but this one is so cute. It will be well used. I will view other people's wish lists before deciding what to put back in the box.

Thanks again, I have tribefan's address so this should go out tomorrow afternoon (otherwise I might just start thinking about it).

Journal Entry 3 by Bluestocking88 from -- Wild released somewhere in the state, Washington USA on Thursday, March 20, 2008
I have chosen Blink and Three Cups of Tea--and put in Between, Georgia (it's wonderful and on MrsJones wish list) and Reading Lolita in Tehran which I read on a bookring and enjoyed enough to purchase a copy to share and another for my collection.

I made the mistake of picking up Choke, I was sure I would hate it, but when I looked up I was on page 17. I can't get to the post office until Friday, so I put the book back in the box, but if insomnia hits between now and then then I might just have to think about it. (If if I WAS allowed to think about it I would keep that one as well, but rules are rules, but no one said I couldn't look at a few pages here and there. . .)

I will get this box moving soon, I expect on Friday. I am very eager to get to Three Cups of Tea, but have several rings ahead of it to clear out first. When I am finished I will offer it as a bookring so if you would like a turn feel free to pm me and I'll make sure to add you to the list.

I received this box in the mail yesterday, but was too busy babysitting my nieces to go through it. I can look forward to unwinding and enjoying the box today. I earned it!!!! :)

Journal Entry 7 by mrsjones from Hamilton, Ohio USA on Sunday, April 20, 2008
Life is finally getting back to normal and I had a chance to resume Bookcrossing. My nieces went home. :)

I have taken "The Book Thief" and "Sunrise on Kusatsu Harbor". I appreciate you adding "Between, Georgia" from my wishlist, Bluestocking88, but a friend just loaned it to me! So I've left it there for someone else to enjoy.

I added "Mama" by Terry McMillan, and "A Pocket Full of Rye" by Agatha Christie. In my opinion, both are master storytellers and everyone should have the opportunity to read their work.

I'll send this off to indygo88 in the next day or two. Thanks!

Journal Entry 8 by indygo88 from Lafayette, Indiana USA on Monday, April 28, 2008
The box was waiting for me when I returned home today! I'll PM Busyangel right now for an address & should be able to make a quick turnaround within the next day or two. I'll journal again when I ship it out & when I decide on my selections.

Journal Entry 9 by indygo88 from Lafayette, Indiana USA on Tuesday, April 29, 2008
Removed:
"Between, Georgia" (Joshilyn Jackson) (I'll reserve it for you next, DoveiLibri!)
"A Pocket Full of Rye" (Agatha Christie)

Put in:
"The Way the Crow Flies" (Ann-Marie MacDonald)
"The Floating Book" (Michelle Lovric)

I thought your book choices were excellent, KimKerry, although I have the majority of them already on my shelf, so that made it easier for me to choose! The box (which I replaced, as I sort of ripped it when I opened it yesterday) is already taped up, addressed, & ready to go to Busyangel. I'll be taking it to the post office tomorrow. Thanks for including me, KimKerry! :')

I'll journal each book and replace the ones I take. I rec'd AriesGirl29's address and will send the book box to TN tomorrow!

Came home from work to find this sitting on my porch! Great books in here. I see one I definitely want and am having a reading dilemma on my second pick- should I go with a book that I'm pretty sure I will like or go with an author I've heard good things about but isn't my usual style? Hmmm- I will ponder this overnight :)

OK- instead of pondering overnight, I pondered over dinner.

I am removing:
The Pillars of the Earth
Stormy Weather

Replacing with:
The Last Days of Dogtown
Garlic and Sapphires

I have PMed the next person in line so once I get an address, I will head to the post office.

Thanks!

Journal Entry 24 by wingelizardbreathwing from Bella Vista, Arkansas USA on Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Received today. I took out The Autobiography of Santa Claus and added The Living End by Lisa Samson. Although this book does send a religious sort of message, it is not a "religious book". In fact, I can imagine many religious persons would find most of the book offensive....which is unfortunate because the best way to describe this book is REAL. Anyway...enjoy and thanks for letting me join the bookbox!

Journal Entry 25 by wingelizardbreathwing from Bella Vista, Arkansas USA on Friday, August 29, 2008
Sending home to KimKerry today.

Journal Entry 26 by KimKerry from Prescott, Arizona USA on Tuesday, September 16, 2008
My messages may not be making it to elizardbreath's mailbox; I sent one last week and one just a bit ago. Not sure if she obtained delivery confirmation when she mailed the box to me almost three weeks ago.

It appears the box has been delayed or lost.

Alas...it went so well, so far, so close...

Journal Entry 27 by KimKerry from Prescott, Arizona USA on Monday, January 12, 2009
Unbelievable!!!! The box finally found me! Through some clerical error, the box was put on a shelf in the PO. Someone finally figured out where it belonged and I was notified.

Thank you! Thank you!

(And thank you to sweetsangria for including a book for me...a book from my wishlist!)
