Kindly donated to BookCrossing by the Red Cross charity shop in Kings Heath - they give us the books they don't sell, to save them from being recycled in a more permanent manner.

Picked out of the donation bags to read - I will release it once it's read.

This is a fascinating look at one woman's ministry within the church BEFORE the ordination of women - so she becomes a deaconess then gradually moves towards full ordination as the rules allow her to. Honest, funny and heartfelt, while obviously a Christian book, she does not push the parallels on the reader, but merely makes observations. The epilogue is cheering, and all in all an interesting and warm read.

I enjoyed this book because of its humorous tone and interesting insights. What I did NOT enjoy was the writer's continuing "disbelief" that anyone could possibly oppose the ordination of women. This showed a complete lack of the sensitivity which, in my view, is important in a clergy-person.

Will send on to nice-cup-of-tea when get an address.

I loved this book! Fascinating account of her journey to become a priest. I was at University when the change came and I can still remember the celebrations!

Will pm Drusillamac for an address....

Apologies for not journalling this book sooner. It arrived mid-flitting from my old flat and I discovered it when I was tidying up my desk this evening. Shall read and move this on again soon. Thanks to Lyzzybee and nice-cup-of-tea for sharing.

I found this book interesting, partly because I don't know much about the modern Church of England and because I don't identify as a Christian. I do agree with LyzzyBee's comment that Jill covers a lot of aspects of the Christian faith but doesn't ram it down other people's throats. The story about the joy riding teenage boy was heart breaking and I found it hard not to be moved by it. I can understand now why some people find comfort in religion after a death or some other tragic event.

I assume there's no-one on the list after me to so it's back to LyzzyBee :)
