Journal Entry 3 by freder1ck from Olathe, Kansas USA on Sunday, March 30, 2008
Lost Treasure Partly cloudy spring chill. Too cold for herons but some geese dart about, gliding low above cold water. Arriving at the lake I see the dawn beat me here as did a friendly well-bundled man and a college kid with his retriever. Initials on a bench: JFK II, painted in whiteout filched from teacher's desk. At the picnic shelter, a LIFE Young Reader's Library volume: The Sea. At the playground a bench with a blanket, a child's bottle, and a small stuffed tiger. At the swinging bench, another book: The Deep End of the Ocean. At the gazebo, nothing: a tomb despoiled of its prize. Was it The Rainmaker? A series of arbitrary, random acts - crying I was here! I too was here, took every book I could find. But what happened here last night? And does a boy miss his tiger? --- my wife's started this one, and likes it. It has a certain thematic resonance with the above lines...
