I think this is the first lesbian love story I ever read, not even sure I really understood that's what it was at the time (teenagers were often more ignorant in my day). It's a sweet, quiet story, very plainly told, of an upper middle class woman and a lower class woman who meet, fall in love and make a life together in the complete absence of any role models, or awareness of homosexuality.
