A man watching a video one night is horrified to see a bit part actor who is his doppelganger.

The premise of this book was intriguing, but the style of writing made me feel like I was wading through treacle. And without giving anything away, I thought the ending was a cop-out. It was the kind of ending I used to give stories when I wrote them at school (and that's not a good thing) - how to end a book when you don't know how to end the story!

Counts as Portugal for the Olympic Challenge. Also in 1001 Books To Read Before You Die.

Snaffled from the table at the meet up at The Cherry Tree, Steventon, Oxfordshire, earlier today. I would add it to my to-be-read pile, but there are so many books in front of it that I can't reach it!

Finally got round to reading this and it was a bit of a struggle which surprised me. One one hand there were moments when I started to enjoy it and others when I found my mind wandering off. I think the themes of identity in general and the possibility of there being doubles out there has great potential (I'm sure there are lots of SF books on the subject if I looked into it) but I don't buy the idea that even the wife didn't recognise her husband .... there are just too many external factors that go into forming who we are and how we act. And yes, the ending was far too tidy - I would have preferred an much uglier emotional conclusion opening up further possibilities concerning choice and debate.

Will release shortly in the hope the book finds a more appreciative reader.
