I read this in 24 hours. A great first novel which gave me a flashback to parts of my childhood (shops like Tandy and the like!!) and easily drew me into the weave of the story. There are excellent references to how children view school - some that I should definately take on board as a teacher!

An unusual read, but enjoyable describing the imaginary life of a lonely girl who sets up her own investigation bureau to pass time. She follows people into a new shopping centre and writes notes on their movements and gives them imaginary characters. She is friendly with a 22yr old man who works in his fathers confectioary shop next door and eventually he is accused of her disappearance. Other characters are woven into the story over the next 20 yrs as the mystery deepens and eventually the clues explain the final movements of Kate after her monkey has been discovered in the service tunnels of the shopping centre.

Picked up at the Rugby meet. Looked good, so I nabbed it as soon as Martha got it out of her bag! Added to TBR :-)

This was an interesting story, and I loved the character Kate, a cute little ten year old girl who imagined she was a private detective, went on stake-outs and her toy monkey is her colleague/sidekick!

She goes missing and I was so sorry the story had to move on from her. She was such a fun and endearing character. All loose ends are neatly tied up at the end of the book, although I was hoping it would end differently. Good book though, and looking forward to reading 'The News Where You Are' soon :-)
