The central premise of this book is that the English are boiling with anger all of the time, and that their greatest achievement is the suppression of this perma-rage. As easy as it is to disagree with this, there are some astute observations to be found here, with the chapters on Memorials, Drink and Queues being particularly worthwhile. It's basically a collection of essays which try to pin down elements of the 'English' character. Providing you don't take it too seriously, it's a pretty good, and at times very funny, read.
