Journal Entry 1 by Caterinaanna from Coventry, West Midlands United Kingdom on Sunday, February 03, 2008
The question on the cover is 'Can you live your life without leaving your bed?' I reckon I'd give it a fair shot. Synopsis Quinn 'Q' Boothroyd is a successful young English lawyer married to the gorgeous Tom and living in New York. She's ticked off most of the boxes on her list of Things To Do Before Hitting Thirty and her life so far has been relatively painless. But when her doctor tells her she has to spend the last three months of her pregnancy lying in bed, Q is thrown into a tailspin by the idea that her social and professional life must come to a total stop. Initially bored and frustrated, Q gradually finds herself re-examining her whole life - her marriage, relationships with family and friends, and her job. Indeed, the inertia of bed rest has some very surprising, funny and touching results ... I enjoyed this piece of chick-lit, read for light relief amonst a batch of serious books. Apart from anything else it's the first time I can remember seeing my favourite abusive name (Ratbag!) in print and there was also a lovely wistful description Q gives of her husband, sleeping on a mat on the floor 'wrapped up in a body that doesn't seem to belong to me any more'. However as a Bookcrosser, it was to me astounding that the heroine did not mention reading any books until page 159 (out of 248) and some aspects if the ending felt a little rushed.

This was quite enjoyable. I don't read much chick lit, but as this had a bit of depth it engaged me more than some other examples I've read. At times I really didn't like the main character, in spite of having sympathy with her situation. Interesting characters, and managed to fit in a variety of situations, in spite of the heroine being bed bound. I thought the ending was a bit too neat, but I think it was the required one. Plan to offer as a ray. Only one taker for the ray so far, notingnothing.

Some fun characters (in the friends/family coming to visit) and I liked the observations of her deteriorating relationship with her husband. Agree that the ending was a little rushed and neat, but it was the right one.

Undemanding and cheery read. Needed something light and entertaining whilst going through this stressful pre-Festival period and this fitted the bill perfectly! (I agree with CaterinaAnna though - where were the books?!)
