One of the set reads on my Open University Introduction to Humanities course.
I have a feeling I will get to know this book very well.
:oS
Absolutely loved this play. Made all the better by having an OU performance of CD to go with it. Roared with laughter at some of the scenes, and found Henry Higgins delightfully non-PC and Eliza's father's philosophy fabulous.
I think the most amazing thing about this play is how far ahead of its' time it was. The humour is as fresh today as it was then. Shaw juggles so many issues with such a light touch that you are drawn in to the characters lives and whilst you laugh at them all, you also feel sympathy with their positions in society whether they are male/female, rich/poor ot from the working class or the gentry.
It caused a stir in its' day and sad to say their are still those that will subscribe to some of the more old-fashioned views of the world.
As Shaw won the 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature and we need something a little lighter after the Hemingway, I will make this book 5 of
The Nobel Spiral.

Off it flies.
Arrived this morning. Great news as am reading a really terrible book at the moment and glad to have an excuse to fnish it quickly. Good idea to put a CD of the play in too. Thanks once again marko167!
Didn't know what to expect but loved this play. Smart, snappy and funny - a pleasure to read.

Off to brunton11. Enjoy!
Received today. I've been away so will get cracking on the Hemmingway first - Apologies for the delay!
This is one of the books I had to read and dissect as part of my GCSE English exam - It's funny how over time you remember things differently! The play was much shorter with less detail than I remembered.
Glad to have had another opportunity to read this book without added exam stress! katrinat has asked to be skipped as she has read it already. I will post it off to iliotropio as soon as possible (I'm laid up at home with a cold so hopefully in the next few days).
Pygmalion is now in Brussels, together with the CDs. Thank you very much marko167, you are really spoiling us!
Many thanks also to brunton11 for sending everything!
Many thanks to marko167 for offering the CDs of the radio broadcast of the play together with the book!
I´ve enjoyed both book and CDs very much!
Next stop: marsala. Happy reading!
Book + cd's arrived safely in The Netherlands. I'm looking forward to reading it and I will start it as soon as I finish my current read. That shouldn't take to long.
Read it and really enjoyed it. It really is a timeless play, and it made me laugh numerous times. I really enjoyed listening to it aswell.
