9 out of 10

Why, oh why do I wait so long between reading Hoffman books? I just love her writing! So, as expected, I really enjoyed this book. The writing and story sucked me right in and I whipped through it. Funny how some author's writing can just flow by really fast while others' just kind of stagnates and it takes forever to wade through.

Given my current "situation" it is funny that I picked this book to read right now. I picked it without really reading the description because it was small and I wanted to take it on vacation with me. I was pleasantly surprised that it focused a lot on one character having a baby years ago and another being pregnant. I'll admit that the parts about the actual birth freaked me out a bit but I have to keep reminding myself that everyone's situation is different. I did find that I learned some stuff though.

There were parts that were very sad but, as usual with Hoffman, there is a sense of redemption and hope at the end. It wasn't exactly "happily ever after" but it was just a nice ending (without all ends neatly tied up). I like a book that doesn't go too much for the easy and complete ending but also doesn't leave you hanging too much. The main reason this book didn't get a 10 rating is that there were parts when both of the main characters did such stupid things that I got really angry at them. Thankfully, their stupidity passed and I was able to get over it. I guess it's like life, there are always people doing stupid things.

This will remain in my PC until I can get a trade paperback copy.
