Who doesn't know Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen? Darcy's Story tells the same events, seen through the eyes of Mr. Darcy. It gives a whole new perspective to P&P.
I loved it.

thank you, Joanazinha! I'm looking forward to a quiet read!

A very quick read! Take P&P, cut out everything except for the pieces with Darcy in it, and fill in the rest of the story from Darcy's point of view, that is what Janet Aylmer did. In the first few chapters the seams are still tangible, but after that it is a pleasant read. No big surprises of course, because the author wanted to be true to the original story, and quite rightly so.
Waiting for Eckleburg's address.

A quick and fun read. As Plinius said, there are no real surprises, and I must say it felt rather strange to read a book that I had never read and yet know exactly what is going to happen.

I like the concept and think Aylmer executed it well. However, I still prefer the portrayal of Darcy in P&P as the arrogant, standoffish gentleman who is little in touch with his emotions. I find "the old Darcy" infinitely more attractive than Darcy-the-fool-for-love, as we get to know him in Darcy's Story.

Next in line is Marsala; I will ask for her address.

Just like Pride and Prejudice, this book is hard to put down. I'm not sure weather I like Mr. Darcy better now, he falls in love with Elizabeth much sooner than I had expected, I thought it would take longer for him to lose a bit of his pride. I especially enjoyed some of the parts that Elizabeth and Darcy had together, but now seen from Mr. Darcy's view. For example when he is writing a letter and Caroline Bingley keeps on talking to him. Now you can read that he is actually very annoyed by this.
All in all it was a very nice book.

Thanks Prizzy, and Joanazinha for making a ring of this book. I am very much intrigued because I adored Pride and Prejudice which I read about 35 years ago and still remember.

Journal Entry 17 by gabrielereads from Bergen op Zoom, Noord-Brabant Netherlands on Tuesday, June 17, 2008
I must say that the book appealed to me less than I expected. Perhaps I am too much a lover of Jane Austen's book. It was like reading the story all over again, from a different angle, and less well told. I hope I did not spoil anybody's fun. Thanks for the ring anyway, it was nevertheless an amusing experience.

Darcy is on the road to AylaMey

Journal Entry 19 by wingAylaMeywing from Zeist, Utrecht Netherlands on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Received by mail today. Thanks Gabrielereads for the nice arty card inside. I'll use it as a bookmark.

I'm very excited ot read this book. I haven't read Pride & Prejudice yet but I did see the BBC series and the movie. And I have become very fond of Mr. Darcy's character and could relate to Elizabeh very much.

-------------

It's now July 23rd and I'm still reading. This is taking a lot longer than I anticipated, sorry for that. I've been on an unplanned vacation without the book, but it is still safe with me. I've read 1/3 of the book now and am liking it very much so far! So please be patient with me and my reading skills.

I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!

What a lovely read for hot summerevenings. I truly enjoyed the book and after a rather slow start my reading took flight. Exceptionally strange to be reading this book before P&P itself and I am now even more intrigued to read the original story.

I have watched both the BBC series as well as the film and find this book following exactly the story as portrayed in the series, but from this different point of view. In the series I already had taken quite a liking for Mr. Darcy, the distant, proud and very goodlooking man struggling with his affections for a 'lesser' woman. In this story we see him from his possible frame of mind. I do not hold him as a-fool-for-love though. Yes, he loves passionately. But his actions are always reserved, as they were portrayed in the series. But isn't is just so that one can feel very different emotions and think very different thoughts as how percieved by others? That's where miscommunication occurs and how misunderstandings take place. I believe in this portrayal of Mr. Darcy as much as the proud and distant Mr. Darcy. The latter does not exclude the existance of the former or vice versa.

All in all a great read. I hope others will enjoy it just as much as I have. Thank you for sharing it with us Joanazinha.

A PM has already been sent to Betje for forwarding the book.

Arrived today with a lot of bugs ( ;-) lieveheersbeestjes). I am curious, but this book will have to wait a little since I want to finish the earlier rings first.

Journal Entry 23 by wingAlfa-Betjewing from Apeldoorn, Gelderland Netherlands on Sunday, August 10, 2008
I've read this book earlier than I expected -> thanks to the weather!
I liked the way in which the writer performed the idea of writing the story from Darcy's point of view. It is a daring idea, I think, to take a work like Pride and Predujice and sort of rewrite it. But I think it was succesfully done. I have not formed a better idea of Darcy, though, I still think of him as an arrogant .... and I still do not understand that Elizabeth comes round to him.

The book is already packed and ready to go to paperfish. I will send it off tomorrow.

Journal Entry 24 by paperfish from Hemrik / De Himrik, Fryslân (Friesland) Netherlands on Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Today I found this book in my mailbox; due to some internet-problems I couldn't journal it before, but it's safe with me now.
And it looks great, really welcoming me to read it, so I already started on the first few pages...
Thanks for sending me, Betje!

Journal Entry 25 by paperfish from Hemrik / De Himrik, Fryslân (Friesland) Netherlands on Thursday, August 28, 2008
And I finished it this morning.
The book didn't really changed my attitude towards Darcy, because he already had my sympathy in Pride and Prejudice - maybe totaly the opposite of most readers, but because he showed himself capable of a change of caracter, I think he can be most a agreeable person for Miss Elizabeth Bennet.
But it did give me a whole other view on his arrogance, and his reasons of pride, which does seems a little more comprehensible.

I do think it's a pity though, that it is written from the belief that P&P is already read before this book, because to my opinion here and there are some parts missing, although I could fill them up very well with the book and the film of P&P in my mind.

Thanks very much Joanazinha for letting me share in this other views.
I'll send the next reader a PM now. > Dat gaat Jordanne Worden, in huize Gyralanyvos is het even te druk om veel te kunnen lezen.

1/9/08: Jordanne's adres ontvangen, boek gaat z.s.m. op de post.

Journal Entry 26 by Jordanne from Landgraaf, Limburg Netherlands on Wednesday, September 3, 2008
The journal entries are very promising! I'm going to read this book very soon I think! Thanks Paperfish for sending it to me and Joanazinha for ringing it!

I loved this book! I enjoyed reading the story from Darcy's point of view. It's been a couple of years since I last read P&P and now I want to re-read it!
Now I envision Darcy and Elizabeth living at Pemberley, I want to read on... know what happens next!

And Darcy's Story is home again. I noticed we forgot Phoenix-flight because of my eagerness to get the book home again :-). I'm meeting her in November and will give the book to her then.
Thanks everyone for your j.e.! I'm glad you all liked it!

On its way to Phoenix-Flight. Happy reading!

Journal Entry 29 by Phoenix-Flight on Sunday, April 19, 2009
Received this book from Joanazinha today. I look forward to reading it. I must shamefully admit I have not yet read 'Pride & Prejudice' eventhough I have tried several times. I have however seen the 6-episode BBC adaption 3 times already, and I love it. I wonder how I'll like this one. Thank you very much for lending this to me Joanazinha!

Journal Entry 30 by Phoenix-Flight on Thursday, June 18, 2009
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fairly quick read, and I found Mr. Darcy's perspective interesting. It did fill in some of the blanks of how P&P and the romance between Ms. Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy came to be. I think Janet Aylmer managed to stay true to the storyline and writing style quite well indeed, without becoming archaic in her choice of words. I have started watching the DVD's series again after finishing this, it just doesn't get boring somehow. A time well spent on this book! Thank you very much for letting me borrow it again. I will bring it with me this Sunday to hand it back to the ring starter.

Journal Entry 31 by wingJoanazinhawing from Amersfoort, Utrecht Netherlands on Monday, June 22, 2009
