In this collection of short stories, Will Terran writes of a nightmarish world of strange people and ordinary people who do strange things.

Not for those who are easily shocked.

The author has written and directed two films and also writes for the theatre. This is his first book.

This book is going to go on a bookring!

Some brief "rules"
* Journal the book when you receive it.
* PM the next person on the list for their address when you receive it so as to try to avoid hold-ups later on.
* If you don't hear from the next participant within a few days, PM them again. If after a few more days you still haven't heard from them, PM me to let me know, and move on to the next person on the list.
* Read (and hopefully enjoy!) Don't feel pressurised to read it in a rush (and life gets in the way sometimes!) but if you need to keep hold of the book for longer than say a couple of months, please journal to let us know.
* Journal again when you've read it to let us know what you think of it.
* The person at the end of the ring sends the book back to me.

Received today, thanks. As I am suffering from a stomach bug and can't do much I will start it right away.

Sorry but I have to say that I didn't really like this book apart from the first story,'eny oll man Adm'. This was quite interesting and Adam's life was one that I have often said is not far off happening. The others I just didn't like/understand. I had problems getting past the bad spelling and grammar. Thanks for sharing it though.
I have the address of the next person so will post it today.

Journal Entry 6 by escapee3 from Liverpool, Merseyside United Kingdom on Friday, February 1, 2008
Book arrives safely in Liverpool, thank you. I'll read over the weekend...

Iā€™m not a fan of stream of consciousness type stories, and thatā€™s how a number of the pieces in this collection come across. As a writer myself, Iā€™ve always felt I could knock up dozens of these stories without any effort at all. In that respect I donā€™t find them impressive. Iā€™ve heard the argument that being so individualistic theyā€™re art in themselves. Itā€™s not an argument to which I care to subscribe.

I felt the best three stories in the collection were ā€˜eny oll man Admā€™, ā€˜Trainsā€™, and ā€˜The Sofa, The Skin & The Fireā€™. The fact that these three are the most structured is not coincidental to them being my favourites.

Still, an interesting read, and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of the ring. I wish your author friend good luck with the book.

Iā€™ve pmed the next recipient for an addressā€¦

Steve

Received today. Thank you escapee3. Will PM next on list for address as requested to try to prevent delays.

Thank you Geetheflea for allowing me to participate in this book ring.

Journal Entry 9 by Littlemisshugs from Leicester, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Wednesday, February 6, 2008
I wouldn't be surprised if what I have taken from, understood or appreciated about any of these stories is necessarily what the author intended as I suspect a lot has gone over my head as I found this book confusing and not really to my taste.

I thought 'eny oll man Adm' as a portrait of isolation and survival coping mechanisms was done well.
I found 'Trains' interesting. I really liked some of the language in Gloria such as:
"Only street light and a few rays from the moon, project a beam of bright night into my life."
"In the thin rain, I make my way through the streets, tears still flowing and joining with the puddles at my feet."
I did like 'Early Mourning' as a snapshot of grief and appreciated 'Caught Alighted' and 'The Sofa, The Skin & The Fire.' I did have to force myself to read the book and doubt I would have managed to complete it if it had been long. I do however suspect I would aprreciciate the stories more if they were dissected in an english literature seminar.

Posted to Spike1972 who will not be able to journal receiving it for a week which I considered was fine as I posted it on the day after I received it and the instructions said to let Geetheflea know if we were going to keep it more than a couple of months. Also if I waited to post it, it would be at least a fortnight until I could get to the post office agsin so thought it was quicker this way. Once again thank you for letting me be part of the book ring.

I've been away from home for a few days, so I'm not exactly sure when this arrived but it's here, safe and sound, and joining Mt Toobie. I'm ok for rings/rays at the moment, in fact this may be the only one, so I'll probably get on to it after my current read.

Journal Entry 12 by spike1972 from Cardiff, Wales United Kingdom on Friday, February 22, 2008
Started this last night. I'll be back once I've finished it.

Journal Entry 13 by spike1972 from Cardiff, Wales United Kingdom on Monday, February 25, 2008
I can't say I was particularly fussed on this. The only story I was anywhere near enjoying was Caught Alighted (monologue) and possibly trains (althought that had a very weird subject matter). escapee3 mentioned 'stream of conciousness' and I have to agree that some of these 'stories' seemed that way to me. As if the author had just sat down and written whatever came into his head, without any kind of editing. Perhaps that' what he was after though?

Anyway, it's always nice to try something new, but I can't say I'll be looking out for future work by this author.

I'll PM RowanneM for an address now.

Posted yesterday.

Apologies for the delay.

Journal Entry 15 by RowanneM on Friday, March 28, 2008
Arrived safely... will get to this next!

Oops... managed t misplace this very small book, found now and read, very interesting stories... posting on the Gingergeoff this week... sorry for the delay.

I received this today, many thanks... next on my list to read!

Journal Entry 17 by gingergeoff from Swindon, Wiltshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 13, 2008
I can't honestly say I enjoyed any of the stories in this book. Of the ones that were structured in the normal fashion, the writer seems determined to shock through gore and stupidity than through the power of his writing.

I have PM'd Bookworm-lady for the next address.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Thanks for sharing!

Journal Entry 20 by wingBookworm-ladywing from Madrid, Madrid Spain on Wednesday, September 3, 2008
Well, if the author is determined to shock his readers, he really makes a great job of it!
I liked the first story, and "Trains" wasn't too bad.
I couldn't understand some other stories, such as "Of Love".
Having said that, I couldn't put it down, and read it in record time!
Maybe Volume Two will be better!
Soon to be sent to my friend Iliotropio...

I can't say I really liked it but there are a few pages that were kind of interesting, in a weird way.

Fotomiep hasn't been answering PMs, Photolein and Caligula03 asked to be skipped. So I guess the book will go home now.
