Book Description
Have you ever wondered:
Why Asians love "Hello Kitty"?
What the tattooed Chinese characters really say?
How to achieve feng shui for optimum make-out sessions?
Where Asian cuties meet the white guys who love them?
Then you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll realize this book is better than a Broadway production of Cats when you read scenes that include:
twenty-something Lindsey Owyang mastering the intricacies of office voicemail and fax dialing
an authentic Chinese banquet where Number One Son shows off his language skills by speaking "Chinglish"
dating disasters with grandsons of Grandma's mahjong partners
the discovery that the real China looks nothing like the pavilion at Disney World
karaoke
And all the while Lindsey is falling in lust with the "white devil" in her politically correct office. But will Grandma's stinky Chinese ointments send him running? Or will Lindsey realize that the path to true love lies somewhere between the dim sum and the pepperoni pizza?

A fun light read. I'm sending it on to azuki who chose it out of the Passport to the World VBB at bookobsessed.com
Thanks the book has arrived! ^_^
The author wants to introduce her cultural background in the book, she wants to write a romance, and she aspires it to be more than a romance, and the book ends up being not very satisfying in any one category, the romance bogged down by the cultural details and the literature makes irrelevant by the light-hearted romance. Some parts feel totally unrelated and unnecessary and makes me wonder why she includes them in the story, except for the reason that it may have been a personal episode that she wants to be remembered.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed it okay, especially from a cultural standpoint, as it gives the perspective of someone as a third generation American-born Chinese, and life in San Francisco Chinatown.
Now sending off to shnedwards who selected it from the Passport to the World vbb on BookObsessed.

It's here! Thank you.
I'm sorry, this book is not engaging me. I'm finding it a bit too aimless and lightweight. So I'm giving up about a third of the way in.
Thanks anyway for sending it to me, azuki. I will make sure I pass it on asap.

What a well-travelled book!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Not my cup of tea, as others mentioned before me: too lightweight. I gave up soon.
Given to a friend during a walk.
Thank you. Will start reading right away.
I agree, it's simply lightweight, and I gave up after one quarter. But I had been warned. I will leave the book in a public bookexchange place.
