It's very interesting to consider what the world would look like had the south won the war. This book is tremendously interesting in that regard. The writing is competent, but not exceptional. The author doesn't help himself by including Lincoln and Mark Twain as characters, it's tough to do justice to their dialogue without their literary skill. Regardless, it's a tremendously interesting work of alternative-historical fiction.
