The Heart of Things: Applying Philosophy to the 21st Century

Another interesting potted philosophy lesson from AC Grayling, kind-of-like the Dawkins of Philosophy - he has no truck with postmodernism, fancy french poseurphilosophy or new age nonsense. By turns wise, thoughtful and even irritating, but always relevant.

Many of the (too?) short articles in this book were previously published. The author at one time wrote a column for The Guardian newspaper called "The Last Word".
Some articles are illuminating; some as AndyDunn mentioned, irritating. I liked the one on Reading. Tried to discuss that with my grandson!
But Grayling seems to equate non-western thought and/or religion/faith most often with 'superstition' which I did find irritating, as I did the article on The Uses of Philosophy. Ordinary people don't think about philosophy because of laziness and timidity? (OK, I know there's a bit more to his argument here, but not much.) Next article - he has to admit the steady popularity of Bertrand Russell's book(s), especially A History of Western Philosophy. Mmmmm...
