Description:
On January 15, 1947, the torture-ravished body of a beautiful young woman is found in a Los Angeles vacant lot. The victim makes headlines as the Black Dahlia -- and so begins the greatest manhunt in California history.

Caught up in the investigation are Bucky Bleichert and Lee Blanchard: Warrants Squad cops, friends, and rivals in love with the same woman. But both are obsessed with the Dahlia -- driven by dark needs to know everything about her past, to capture her killer, to possess the woman even in death. Their quest will take them on a hellish journey through the underbelly of postwar Hollywood, to the core of the dead girl's twisted life, past the extremes of their own psyches-into a region of total madness.

Well... this one is a tough one to rate. I would really get into it and then it would drag. I felt that some of the story lines took way too long to develop. This one was pretty dark and it took me a while to read. It may have been a bit too graphic for my taste.

Fantastic! I will enjoy reading this one. Lumbermoose and I saw the movie a few years ago. I didn't realize it was based on a book. The Black Dahlia is a particularly fascinating true crime case.

Thanks for sharing Angela861!

I gave this one a shot, got about 25 pages in and gave up! Sorry! I will see if Lumbermoose wants to read it and then we will figure out something to do with it after that.

Journal Entry 6 by Lumbermoose from Woodstock, Georgia USA on Sunday, October 18, 2009
Just started this one. I slept through most of the movie, so it should be "new" to me.

11/3/09 -- Finished this one last night. I agree that it's a bit dark - kind of disturbing especially considering that this murder actually happened. Thank you for sharing it since I fell asleep during the movie. However, from what I do remember of the movie, this book was better.

This book was really different for me. I tried to get into it, but it was so slow....and so graphic. I found myself skimming through a lot of it.
Will be passing in a bookbox.
