One of Bryson's better books! This is a collection of newspaper articles that he wrote about life in America. You'll laugh out loud throughout the book.

A very good read. Bryson's mix of British and American customs and ways of looking at things is very funny.

The book travels to Bookcloud tomorrow.

Received and read last night when I got home from work.
The thing with Bill Bryson is I either love his books or can't understand a single idea he's on about. Luckily, and thankfully, I adored this book! I only meant to read a few pages, but as this book is a compilation of newspaper articles he wrote in the late 1990's for the UK newspaper 'The Mail On Sunday' (against his initial pleading not to!) and therefore each segment/chapter is only 4 pages long, I raced through about half of the book before I realised.
This book is all based on Mr Bryson's observations on life in America after his brief 20+ year sojourn in the UK. Having only been to the States once, a few of the pop culture references passed me by, but as the original columns were written for a British audience they are easily accessible.
I nearly choked on my tea (chilli chicken with noodles if you're interested) when I read about his experiences flying - getting trapped in the crash position and having to grasp the ankle of a fellow passenger to escape, and accidently throwing two consecutive cups of coffee over a nun on another occasion were just *so* hilarious!
His more serious columns, about global warming, and the national debt and his frustrations with the Federal Government departments are concise and less mystifying than I feared.
Overall, well worth a 10 mark!
Thanks so much for sharing VividReader, and to Bookcloud for posting forward.
PM'ing niccijl for their addy and will get on soonest!

I've safely received this and have already begun it. I'm pass it on by the end of the week.

Thanks for letting me join in this ring. I had actually read the book before but didn't realise this as the UK edition has a different title. I read it again anyway and still enjoyed it.

This has now been sent on to the next reader.

I am sorry it took me so long to finish this book. It was a really good read and went quite quick once I was able to start.

Whiel I don't always agree with Bryson's ideas he does have a humorous outlook and a unique prespective.

This is the 2nd book I have read by Bill Bryson. I enjoyed it! I admire someone who can take normal life in America and write with such humor, I found myself giggling every few paragraphs. Such talent this writer has. Basically this book is filled with essays that are organized by chapters. He writes about all kinds of things about America, after moving to New Hampshire after living in Britain for 20 years. He writes about baseball, shopping, lawyers, over-the-counter medicine, drive-inn movies, computers, waste, airplanes and taxes among countless other things that sets America apart from other countries. The thing I love about Bryson’s writing is, I learn something as I laugh thru the pages. His outlook on things is sometimes like reading my mind and putting it on paper. I highly recommend these books and look forward to reading others by this author.

Thank you for including me in this ring.
Will send to the next person as soon as I receive address.
