Reads more as memoirs - experience of events obviously fed into this - I am sure that is one of its strengths. Highly recommended. I bought this because of a suggestion for a bookring by booknhand which seems not to have started. I am going to suggest a European bookring for this copy, but am prepared to consider a second to form a North American ring to help keep postage sensible, if there is demand.

In my mailbox today. That was quick! Thanks nelle-tap for sending it, also for the lovely bookmark. Yes, I do love sunflowers. I'm looking forward to reading the book, but don't worry if it takes a while. As you know I'm preparing a trip abroad right now. It'll have to wait until I'm back.

I will see to it that it keeps on travelling in a "Bookcrossing manner" when done.

Finnished reading in only two days. I could have done it in one sitting, because once started, I could not put it down. But we need to sleep too, don't we?

This book moved me like few books have lately! The story of two women whose unique friendship starts and grows by way of the internet, is thought provoking and touching. The e-mail correspondence is poignant and funny at the same time. Gradually you start to "know" and appreciate both women and their families. The ending is extremely touching without being too sentimental.

I recommend this novel most highly! I think any woman of any age should read this. I for one learned a lot about breast cancer I did not yet know, but also about the importance of friendship in any life.

Thanks for sharing. I'm awaiting mailing instructions now. I think this book deserves more readers in a ring! Let me know if you want me to say so in the BC forum. For instance, I could "bump" the original thread and recommend the book.

April 22nd update:
One last try to find more readers: this post in the Bookring forum
If there is no reply within a couple of days I will send it back home after the weekend.

This book is about to cross the channel again. I shall need to think whether I should sponsor it for Breast Cancer for every mile it travels - maybe it will be too costly to do so!
Bestfriends has recommended it to page290. When she has read it I hope she will PM me and we can then decide whether she has a worthy recipient or whether it should return home to me.

Dear stranger, Dearest Friend. Via BestFriends BCFriend Nelle-tap I got this book yesterday. (Lots of friends in this line)Tnx Nelle-tap. I'm honoured to may read the book, because this book is very dear to Nelle-tap. I want to read this book, because I just lost a dear friend to breastcancer and have one other friend who is suffering from the same illness.
First have to finish BestFriends other bc book of Bill Bryson.
Will let you know asap how I liked the book.

So finally finished the book. The structure of the book as an email correspondence at first, didn't appeal very much to me. Nowadays (the book is from 2001) email and fora are so obvious and I read them all day, that when I read a book, I would like it to be a book, not a forumdiscussion or emailcorrespondence. But I got used to it, as the book progresses the letters get longer so you still have the idea of proper chapters.

The author gives the reader a complete view of breastcancer and it's remedies and not-remedies. She does so by having two women with breastcancer writing letters to each other. By doing so the reader gets a insight in those women's lives and their illnesses. Sometimes it is a bit forced, because the author have them explain all details to each other (to inform the reader about cancer), which is a bit overdone, because the one is almost an advisor in breastcancer therapies and then the other one is explaining her what she had to go through herself.

But it was good to read it all. I for example learned not to trust on one opinion from one doctor. So nevertheless, I enjoyed the book. I have allready and would surely again recommend the book to women who have breastcancer, because it's a good guide and they might find comfort in it.

So now my question to Nelle-tap is: I have a friend nearby who has lost two friends recently (last 6 months) to breastcancer and she still has one friend who has it, may she read the book?

I filled in reserved because I did not know what to fill in else.

Thanks for sharing Page290

I got the book from Page290. I forgot to make a comment here. I did and didn't like the book. I liked the writing. I finished the book in 2 days, not because I liked it, but because I wanted to get it over and done with. I'm simply too old to read about all the details about BC. When you have got my age you know that you will die from the one or another illnes and I do not want to read the specific details anymore. Though I can image that women who have BC find comfort in it, although they must realise that the book is 7 years old, so the info may be outdated.
So thanks for sharing the book, I liked Laney Katz Becker's writing. I will give the book back to Page290 so that she can send it back to Nelle Tap.

A very moving storty told via email correspondence. I loved the way the women's relationship developed and how they found similar ground outside of their breast cancer. It was informative without being preachy, funny while being serious as well as sad. The ending was in part expected yet a complete surprise. To explain more would reveal too much. Highly recommended read!

Received today from Gembear, I started reading it as soon as I opened the parcel. I actually like the format of emails, it makes a change from the usual chapters, and can be picked up and put down at a moments notice. Find the language a bit american but then it is so I shouldn't realy complain.

I enjoyed reading this, found it quite informative and also very moving. I lost a dear friend to Breast cancer about 15 years ago, I wish I'd had this to read then. It was a bit 'American' and some of Susans upsets with Gabby made me want to shake her for being so petty. Still, all in all it was probably true to lots of peoples experience. I'm afraid I anticipated the ending as I knew there was a twist probably through reading the journals before I read the book, but that didn't really detract from it.
Have contacted nelle-tap to know where to send it next.
