One of the many added to my Mount TBR in 2007!

Journal Entry 2 by Kimmi from Kelowna, British Columbia Canada on Saturday, February 23, 2008
While it was a brutal story, Hosseini writes beautifully and the book was as easy to read as the Kite Runner. This story is set in Afghanistan and it tells the story of two women who become unlikely friends and the life they endure. Worth while reading.

I finish reading this book two nights ago, but I couldn't write journal till now because my PC was down.

I liked this book very much and cried at the last 10 pages. Although I understand that this book is fictional, I believe some (or many) Afghan women have been going through similar experiences. It was so disturbing how these women suffered and endured so many pains without giving basic human rights. It was so sad and painful to read, and at the same time, it was amazing how strong these women were! Mr. Hosseini wrote these women’s emotion very well, and the relationship of these two women was so beautiful. Also, like “Kite Runner,” the weakness of man was written well in Jalil’s character, and it was a good contrast with the strong women in this tough environment.

i loved it as much as "the kite runner". i started reading it and i could not stop reading however sleepy or tired i was.
what's different from the kite runner is that the kite runner was a more optimistic book .but this is very brutal and the heroines suffering has no ending.
i likes mariam most.

i've already send a pm to RuthyToothy and i'm waiting for her reply. from 28july to 3 august i'll be on holidays, so when i come back i'll post the book asap.

I very much enjoyed this book, although I did find it harrowing at times. As with Kite Runner, Hosseini has drawn his characters very well, so that the reader really empathises with what they are going through. I think the most depressing aspect of the book had to be the realisation that Afghanistan has just gone from one war to another for so long that it's people really don't have any first hand experience of being at peace :-(

Received this book a few days ago. Thank you RuthyToothy and Kimmi !
I have a lot of work as well as a huge mtTBR at the moment so it may take me a little while to read it (plus it seems thick!) However, if it takes too long to your taste, please ring the bell !

I read this book 2-3 weeks ago, and it's now off to Portugal. I apologize for keeping it for so long !

It was such a good book ! Also, I read it during a one week holiday, and it was so nice to be have time to read a novel at last, and to read in English at last, and to read more than a dozen pages each time - at last !

Thanks Kimmi for sharing, thanks to all for your patience. I hope it will arrive safely to isabelopes, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Got it last Friday. I really loved Kite Runner and I'm looking forward to reading this one. As far as I know it has the same ingredients so I do have high expectations... Thanks for sharing.

Great book. I love everything this author writes and I'm really into this type of stories based on true facts. We learn about a country and about different ways of life. It's strange how these things are really happening. Thank you for sharing
