For successful crime novelist Geraldine Frayling, a new home promises a quiet life -- but the peace is soon to be shattered. The body of her alcoholic gardener is discovered in her garden shed only days before her mad French housekeeper is murdered, and the previous owner of her house is found suffocated in his nursing home. Gerry's life has begun to resemble that of Virginia Vale, her bestselling detective, where black-clad murderers stalk the quiet streets. But the unsympathetic Detective Inspector Clooney hasn't come up with any answers, so Gerry will have to take matters into her own hands.
