Synopsis:
Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and cache of yellowing letters addressed ominously to "My dear and unfortunate successor". Her discovery plunges her into a world she never dreamed of - a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an evil hidden in the depths of history.

In my opinion, the story takes too long to develop and then has a sudden closure which left me unsatisfied. For such a captivating synopsis (and, to be honest, book cover!), I don't think it delivers. I hope you enjoy it more! :)

Journal Entry 4 by silvia-pco from Murtosa, Aveiro Portugal on Thursday, November 19, 2009
I'm almost done with this one, so I'll offer it as a Bookray.

List of participants: (accepting entries!)

01. FallenAngels (Cascais, Portugal)
02. ex2 (Taipei, Taiwan)
03. briz-cowgirl (Queensland, Australia)
04. earthcaroleanne (Scotland, UK)

And thanks to earthcaroleanne, the book will continue on its journey to these readers...
05. disneyfreaksam (UK) (INT'L)

06. Joanthro (Colorado, USA) (INT'L)

Guidelines (based on JennyC1230's)

1. When you receive book, please make a journal entry.
2. PM the next person on the list for their address.
3. After you read the book, tell us what you thought of it.
4. When you mail the book, make another journal entry to let us know.
5. I'll set the reading deadline as 2 months; I know what it feels like to have a huge Mount TBR and the struggle one does to keep up with the deadlines, so I'll be flexible here. If you are having trouble and need to keep it for a little longer, that's cool: just PM me or make a JE so that we can know it hasn't been forgotten.
6. If you see anyone on this list who is a known staller of bookrings please let me know that too!
7. If you're the last person on the list, you're free to keep it, continue the Bookray, start a Bookring... it's up to you!
8. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 7 by FallenAngels from Parede, Lisboa (distrito) Portugal on Tuesday, February 9, 2010
As I don't like vampire stories, I was a bit scarred when I realized Dracula was one of the carachters...However the book turned out to be a nice thirller, in spite of being too long...Very nice detailed, with precise flashbacks, I ended up liking it, however the final was to sudden regarding the time the plot took to develop. Thank you for the oportunity!!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I got about half way reading this book and realized I was reading it just to read it. I did not get excited to pick it up and find out what happens (usually I am pretty stubborn and finish a book so this was a rare moment) It was entertaining but did not have me engaged. I decided to send it to its next home.

Journal Entry 12 by briz-cowgirl from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Thursday, May 20, 2010
Received from ex2 yesterday - thank you! Have just started reading it now, looking forward to getting engrossed in it as I love vampire stories, especially Dracula :)

Journal Entry 13 by briz-cowgirl at Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Monday, May 31, 2010
When I first received this book I was slightly overwhelmed - 700+ pages, argh!
Once I got into it, I was pretty hooked on the story though; the only unfortunate thing was some important work stuff meant that I couldn't read as freely as I would have liked :(
Loved the historical background in the novel - I had only the bare minimum idea of the Dracula legend. My only criticism was that it tended to drag a little in parts.
"I became a historian in order to preserve my own history forever".
Thanks heaps for sharing this bookring silvia-pco. PM'ing the next reader in the ring...

Journal Entry 15 by wingearthcaroleannewing at Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom on Monday, July 19, 2010
This arrived while I was on holiday along with another bookring. I'll read the other one first as it is an official unconvention book, but I'm sure it won't take me too long.

Journal Entry 16 by wingearthcaroleannewing at Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 18, 2010
This book did not grab my attention. I actually put it down when I realised I was last in the bookray and there was no hurry for it to move on. But I don't like not finishing a book and carried on, especially as others kept telling me how good it was when they saw I was reading it. I'm afraid I don't agree and actually skipped some of the letters as I was sure they would be explained further along. I finished it but that's about all I can say.

Thank you very much. I will get to this one as soon as I have finished the ring I am reading at the moment.

Journal Entry 19 by disneyfreaksam at Warminster, Wiltshire United Kingdom on Saturday, September 18, 2010
I did enjoy this book but I was a little disappointed in how the whole trip to Europe was dealt with. Not the journey itself but how the problem of getting there was dealt with, a cop out I thought.

I did enjoy reading it though.

Journal Entry 22 by Joanthro at Denver, Colorado USA on Sunday, May 8, 2011
I had heard a lot about this book and was very surprised when I began reading it to find it was about vampires - not my usual reading choice! I gave it a try, but was disappointed. The story moves along slowly which in and of itself isn't bad, but it never goes anywhere. I never had the feeling that all the detail was justified in the sudden ending.

Sending to SqueakyChu for a book fair. Good luck little book! I hope you find a more appreciative reader than myself.
