This was a very good, but very sad book. It's told from the point of view of Carrie, an 8-year-old girl. Carrie tells the story of the abuse that she and her 6-year-old sister, Emma, suffer at the hands of their step-father after their biological father was killed. I read most of this book in one day because I could hardly put it down. Parts were very sad, especially closer to the end of the book. The last couple of chapters were really shocking when something big was revealed about Emma. Though this book nearly made me cry, I enjoyed it.

I noticed when I read the book that a few pages have what appears to be food stains on them. I apologize for this, but I didn't do it. :) I received this book through one of the online book swapping sites and didn't realize that the stains were in the book until I recently read it. They are not too bad and do not affect the readability of the book.

Caught this in my mailbox this morning, thanks so much! Very excited about reading this one :) I had a really stressful Friday ... then today everything was resolved AND I got this package, so THANKS!

I am just getting around to journalling this, having read it earlier this week. EEKK! (09-02-08)
Whoa, holy crap this book made me feel sick, it was that intense.
Richard was a slime sucking piece of crap if ever there was one and the momma was no better, letting him get away with it.
Carrie and her sister Emma's dad is murdered while one of them watches. The mom is emotionally distant, seemingly both during the marriage and after his death it worsens. Mom then remarries the bum-man, who is abusive to any females in the home. The girls run away but are caught ... then they move to a more isolated area. Carrie is a natural with a gun, taught by the old man down the lane. The revelations at the end will have you rethinking the entire story!
