Blurb: The year is 2021. For twenty-five years no child has been born. Nor will there be any more children for infertility has spread like a plague and the human race faces extinction.

I have mixed feelings about this book, but I enjoyed it overall. I normally enjoy PD James' writing, and this topic is more my style than her mystery novels. I felt some parts of the writing jarred. For example, some chapters were excerpts from a diary written by one of the main characters, but most chapters were written as a narrative. It took me a while to get used tot eh change of perspective each time. However, it was an interesting "what if". I don't think I learnt much about the book that wasn't in the trailer for the movie. I think I was hoping for fascinating, and was a bit disappointed when I got consumer fiction instead. (Not that I have anything against comsumer fiction - it just wasn't what I was hoping for from this novel).

Adding to the "You've Gotta Read This" Bookbag. I understand my feelings about this book as expressed above are a bit ambivalent, but I id enjoy it and I would recommend it to read to someone else, even if only for the exploration of an interesting concept.

Have only read P D James' murder mysteries at this stage so am interested to read something different from her pen. Thanks DrCris
