Sent to me from Katayoun.

Update: I really enjoyed this. I wasn't sure I would at the beginning, but the story really developed nicely. It was very slow going in the first few chapters, but it actually did help you get a good feel for the characters.

Journal Entry 4 by khillz28 from Oakboro, North Carolina USA on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
this is the story of two sisters Riley & Alice & their friend Paul. It is the story of summer friendship, sisterhood, secrets, young love, growing up and decisions we make. I also found the beginning a bit slow, maybe the author felt we needed to know more of the characters? It did pick up after a few chapters but I felt like the writing seemed a little subdued. It was a middling book, not the best I've read by far but certainly not the worst. Since this was Ann Brashares first attempt at writing a "adult" book, I think her writing style will more than likely just improve.

Thank you for sharing this book & including me in your bookray. Mailing off to rebeccaljames Wednesday, June 25.

Interesting story of two sisters and one boy. The sisters, Riley and Alice are as close as two can be and the boy, Paul, who makes his own little place in each of their hearts. Paul is lost and lonely and confused reaches out with anger to hurt those around him, yet is still likeable. Secrets, illness and more secrets skew the different relationships and the three of them must learn to grow up and move on, rather than live in a past that is no longer there. A quick and enjoyable read if a touch simplistic when hitting on the deeper issues that arise.
PM'ed sleepymom for her address -- will mail out shortly. Thank you for sharing!
Update 10-16-08: I have sent a second PM, in case the first one didn't make it through.

I just couldn't really get into this book, and I don't know why, since I usually love her books. I couldn't relate to the characters, and I thought they were all extremely flat. Thanks for sharing, however, and I have the next person's address. I'll mail this out on pay day.

The book was in my mailbox today, along with a very pretty card. Thank you Niko.
I will put away the other three or four books that I have been trying to get interested in, and jump right in to this one.I have liked what I've read by this author.

Journal Entry 15 by wingkayjay33wing from Langley, British Columbia Canada on Thursday, November 20, 2008
Unlike some of the previous readers, I was captivated by this book right from the beginning. Having four dearly loved sisters of my own, I always find the sister theme one that usually always attracts me. The book was sensitively written, dealing with delicate subjects in a straightforward manner without undue sensuality. One tender love scene moved me to tears.
I have the address for the next reader so will have it in the mail soon.
Thank you Kitten22 for inviting me to join this bookray.

Sadly this book had a longer journey than expected. It was returned to my mailbox today. The Post Office had written on the package "Not picked up"
I will PM the original owner to find out what I should do next. I can't say that I feel like spending more money to send it a great distance if I am only going to get it back again.

This book is off on another long journey, and has been a costly bookray for me. First I sent it to England where it was not picked up and so it was returned to me. The originator told me to send it to the next one on the list. So now I have sent it to Iran. If it comes back again, I will keep it. It was sent by Canada Post.
It was a wonderful book and I would like to thank Kitten22 for the opportunity to read it. Sorry that I was a bit grouchy over the situation. (Edited to remove some of my comments)
