Bed and Breakfast
11 journalers for this copy...
A story of a women who in her mid-life runs a bed and breakfast in the south. the sotry revolves around her coming to terms with herself, her passt and what her children have become. I liked the story but it never really grabbed me emotionally.

Hanrahan-Siudy kindly contacted me after finding this book on my wishlist, and it arrived today! Thank you so much! I have a bit of a reading backlog but should get to this by the Spring at latest (lucky it beat the Christmas/Birthday influx!) and I will then share it with BookCrossing friends.
Thanks again!

A charming book of a kind I really love - a Southern dysfunctional family trying to come to terms with the past, present and future. The characters are well drawn and nicely differentiated, and the plot well done. The descriptions are very atmospheric too.
Inevitably, this will go to the usual suspects in my next slew of BookRings!

Arrived safely today, thanks, LyzzyBee. I'm in the middle of reading another of your ring books but this one's next on the list :-)
What a bittersweet story! This was my first Lois Battle book but hopefully won't be my last. I must admit that there were times when I got irritated with the three daughters and even Josie herself sometimes appeared too "good" to believe but it was ultimately a satisfying read. I certainly enjoyed Batttle's writing style and will be on the lookout for more of her books.
Sorry for the delay in sending this on to Cross-Patch, it was posted today. Thank you so much for sharing - again - LyzzyBee :-)

Here it is; as usual I have just posted a LyzzyBee book on! Bed and Breakfast sounds charming and as I'm still in recovery from Glamorama I need something charming, for sure.

Posted to purplerosebud today. This was one of my most contented reads of the year. I found the characters interesting and full of fascinating quirks. There were so many themes - family, loyalty, jealousy, love, need and the age old battle of the generations. Has she written anything else? Thanks again, LyzzyBee, for yet another good novel from the South.

Many thanks for sending this on. It has now arrived and will be started as soon as I finish my current read. I've read and enjoyed other books by Lois Battle so I'm looking forward to this one.

I found this book dissapointing at first. I found it slow and I didn't like the characters but as I continued reading I became more drawn to it and I whizzed through the last 150 pages. I went through spells of liking and not liking Josie and her daughters but I thought the family was portrayed quite realistically. I like the part 2 section where all the loose ends were sewn up.
Thanks for sharing LyzzeBee, I'll be passing it on to calalilly very soon.

Arrived today - the third ring book to arrive at my house this week.
Journal Entry 18 by Heaven-Ali from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Thursday, February 19, 2009
I enjoyed this novel about Southern women and families. It reminded me a lot of other "southern" novels I have read. Strong southern voices bring the characters to life. Josie is a seventy something military widow, who nurses a little disappointment at the marriage she looks back on. She has three very different daughters, each of them difficult in their own way. When a friend of hers has a brush with death Josie decides she doesn't want to waste any more time. With Christmas approaching, Josie decides to insist that all her family come to her house - a bed and breakfast she started after her husband retired. And so the scene is set.
I liked Josie and Dozier, and Cam and Reba were also marvelous characters. Christmas can be a stressful time, and the row that errupts on Christmas eve - was brilliant - and very realistic - only in families can such petty resentments exist.
This will be going back to Liz later today when we meet up for a cuppa.

25/3/09 - I'm afraid I am really struggling with this book and not particularly holding my interest. Can't quite put my finger on what it is, maybe just the way it is written.
Anyway, will contact Anglersrest to pass on.

Arrived today, just in time to accompany me to the conference I'll be at next week, assuming I can wait that long before starting!
....well, I didn't wait before starting and in fact started and finished before heading off to the conference. This was a lovely read and is the story of Josie the widow of a military man, named Bear, who died 10 years previously. Upon retirement from the military Bear & Josie are wanting to settle into a pleasant retirement, and Josie selects a house that she wants to run as a bed and breakfast. Bear dies soon after and Josie is left with a rift between herself and her three daughters. As a friend of hers struggles following an illness Josie is determined to rebuild the relationship between her daughters and herself.
On its way to as a RABCK to someone who has this on their wish list. - Enjoy!
