this was not my favourite faulks's novels, but still i enjoyed it. The randomness of life becomes a burden once you become aware if it, and if there's a war somewhere in your past/roots that lack of order exposes a terrible lack of meaning. This seems to be the leitmotif in many of faulk's books. but no one can tell and retell the facts and traumas of the first and second world wars like he does. this time i though the middle-east bits were fascinating, as well as the fact that everybody seems to have multiple nationalities.
all in all, no matter how you tell it, the story remains the same. the fool's alphabet is no better or worse than any other. you build yourself with your own characters, in the end. you just have to find your order and meaning throughout the bombs and memories.
