Thank you, Secret Santa!
I received my package today after a real hard day at work. I'd been determined to wait till Christmas, but I was sooo curious, and I really needed something to cheer me up - so I decided, if it was gift-wrapped, I wouldn't peek. Well it _was_ gift-wrapped, but the wrapping paper around the book was torn a bit at one side, so... I confess I peeked. I'm so delighted! Thanks a lot for the wonderful gift, Terra57! It's much appreciated! :))

I just finished reading. I love this book - especially for its poetic style. So much beauty in such unexpected places.
Much of this book is about words (and the power of words), and the author really knows how to use them. He knows how to deliver the soft words so they hit you with an impact you wouldn't have thought possible, given their usual lightness... And he knows how to wrap the hard words so they appear to stroke you rather that hit you. And all this time, the words never turn sentimental on you. Sentimentality is a feeling that should be avoided when talking about war.
Beauty, on the other hand, is possible everywhere.

This book will remain in my PERMANENT COLLECTION - but it will be loaned out to friends who simply need to read it (even though some of them might not know it yet). ;) And I hope I'll get some journal entries in return.
