Selected for Olympic Challenge - Netherlands Antilles goes to hobbit after I'm done
ISBN reads as 1579621457 but search could find no book.
Sorry hobbit for sending you this book but I hated it. It felt like a Cirque du Freak with whores and biblical references mixed in for variety. One of his side charaters said he "read the last book twice and still didn't get it." Count me among the bankers.

Thanks, hendertuckian. I know how you feel passing on a book you didn't like, as I've done that a couple of times for this challenge. But I'll try it.

I didn't enjoy it much either. I found the characters greedy, selfish, and generally unsympathetic. It switched narrators in the middle with no warning, and then switched back which I didn't realize for some time - I was quite confused.

Well, it wasn't the worst book I've ever read and it takes me one step closer to the Olympic Challenge goal.

No, I had no idea what he was on about either! I'm not going to read it a second time to try to work it out (I don't think I'd be any the wiser).

Maybe someone will say they liked this by the time it stops making its rounds for the Olympic Challenge. Reminded me of badly immitated Faulkner. Also didn't like that he seemed to be trying to impress you with the breadth of his reading.

I haven't liked many of the books I've read for this challenge. I wonder if it is translation issue, or just the books I'm getting, or what. Anyways, I rewarded myself for slogging through this by reading a couple short historical selections.
