"Sweetgrass is a historical tract of land in South Carolina that has been home to the Blakely family for eight generations. But Sweetgrass -- named for the indigenous grass that grows in the area -- is in trouble. Bulldozers are leveling surrounding properties. and the Blakelys could be forced to sell the one thing that continues to hold their disintegrating family together. For some of the Blakelys, the prospect of selling Sweetgrass is bittersweet -- for others, it is completely unimaginable. But as they find the strength to stay and fight, they realize that their bond as a family is all they need to stay together."
EDIT 27.6.2008
I was really suprised, how much I liked this novel. I enjoyed reading it allthough it is some kind of a romance fiction. I’ve always liked stories telling about families and the strong tension between the members of the families. This story is a great insight to family life, it is full of emotion. It was also interesting read about presevation and about making sweetgrass baskets. I think it was really enjoyable summer reading.
I'll send it next to seethroughfaith.

"enjoyable summer reading" - sounds great OnniManni. Thank you for this. I'm just about to leave for a conference and then a short trip up to Östra Bothnia - sadly by car (all those hours that I could be reading on the train wasted!) but I think I'll slip this in my bag and take it with me "in case":)

So happy to send this book on its way. It's a lovely read and I hope you, Queenfrog, will enjoy reading it.
I love reading where books end up -and what other readers thought of the book (good and bad!) - so do please take time to make a journal entry if you possibly can. Appreciate that!
