I remember reading and liking this. No idea why I never journalled it.
Into TheGoalieGirl's travel box it goes.

Now, this is an attention-getting title if I ever saw one {grin}. And the concept - groom jilted at the altar decides to go through with the (pre-paid) honeymoon trip, taking his brother along - is very appealing. So I'm taking this one out of thegoaliegirl's travel bookbox; thanks for sharing! [The acting bookbox journal is 101 Things To Be Thankful For.]
Later: The book turned out to be about half autobiography and half travel-journal, but while I'd hoped for a bit more travel I still enjoyed the combination. Wisner writes well, and even though it was clear from his description of the original wedding plans that he was living at an income level well beyond my own {wry grin}, that didn't remove all sympathy from his predicament. And the way he describes his changing relationship with his brother appealed to me - one's siblings can surprise one...
So the book deals with the ups and downs of romantic relationships, the changes in family relationships, the way in which one may deal with a high-stress career (he was a lobbyist and a press secretary; I learned more about those jobs than I'd expected) - oh, and with travel, which wasn't new to our hero; he recounts his family's six-month sabbatical in New Zealand when he was 12!
From the outset, when his brother gleefully informs him that the in-flight movie is "Runaway Bride" (!), their banter is among the high points of the story, but I also appreciated the lively tone. And by the time they've decided to do a long-term, world-spanning trip, I was hooked; even when they visited places I wasn't that interested in, it was fun to read their experiences, and they hit plenty of spots I'd love to see!

Pulled out of the Books about People bookbox because the title was just too intriguing to pass up! Adding to the every toppling Mt TBR for now.
books about people bookbox; Very interesting, but I don't think I could do it! Franz's fiancée breaks the engagement weeks before the wedding. He can't get the $$ back, so they have the reception anyway, sans bride. And (because this is before 9/11), he takes his brother on the honeymoon trip to Costa Rica. They have such a great time, that both quit their jobs, sell their houses and backpack around South America, SE Asia and Africa off and on for two years.

If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it. Then, when you are ready, pass it along for someone else to enjoy! Thanks and happy reading!

I received this in the mail today in a package of two 'H' books for the 'H' bookring. I am choosing this book to read.
The original honeymoon in Costa Rica expands to more than a year of travel all over the world. The book is more than a travel book in that we learn so much about the author's life. He spends a lot of time going over his relationship with the girl who jilted him at the altar. Yet, he still seems clueless as to why the ten-year relationship ended. I found myself bored with the endless partying that seemed to characterize much of the brother's travels. If I were to travel, I would probably not take much of the advice offered to us in this book. For example, I would not completely throw out guide books as he recommends and I would steer clear of places that attract large crowds like festivals and soccer games. These large crowds sounded very unfun to me.
This book has been donated to the Bio/Humor VBB organized by JennyC1230.
