Journal Entry 1 by skizeye9 from Washington, District of Columbia USA on Monday, November 26, 2007
I read the Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory because of my fascination with Queen Elizabeth and loved it! I've been intending to read her other novels but not in a particular rush as my TBR list is huge--naturally. Then I was at the airport the other weekend, and as usual couldn't help but to browse the books, and saw her book with Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana on the front and was terrified! I knew I had to read it immediately before the movie came out, b/c I'd want to see it but I wouldn't want it to ruin the novel for me! Anyhow, as I write this I'm halfway through and completely absorbed--it rocks! Will share once I'm done with it though! P.S.: I think they should have a book category for Historical Fiction as that is what this really is--it's fiction but the story is loosely weaved around fact!

I really, really enjoyed this book but I love this author and am fascinated by this time period. My only complaint is that in some ways I think she could have cut down the length some more without losing the important stuff. Regardless, the characters and the story and the plot are fabulous and I can't wait for the movie in February!

Wow! What a wonderful book. Started it just a few days ago and 736 pages later... I am finished. As always, very well written in her own way. I enjoyed this one very much! I do agree on the length.... could have tightened up the tale a bit. I found myself skimming just a little bit there toward the end. Otherwise very enjoyable. Can't wait to get to a few others by PG!
