Synopsis from amazon.co.uk: "Families have secrets they hide even from themselves...It should have been an ordinary birth, the start of an ordinary happy family. But the night Dr David Henry delivers his wife's twins is a night that will haunt five lives for ever. For though David's son is a healthy boy, his daughter has Down's syndrome. And, in a shocking act of betrayal whose consequences only time will reveal, he tells his wife their daughter died while secretly entrusting her care to a nurse. As grief quietly tears apart David's family, so a little girl must make her own way in the world as best she can."

I enjoyed reading this book, and particularly liked Edwards' writing style. Thanks, MrsJennings!

Will keep this to take to the next meetup in Cape Town.

I was thrilled to find this book at the meet-up today as I have been inquisitive about and on the look out for it for a while now. Thanks Klaradyn for bringing it along - after reading your journal entry I hope to read it and pass on soon.

This book is visiting a friend and when returned I will be sending it to kittyreads who showed an interest in it when she visited here last.

The story, even though entertaining, seems impossible - but one wonders whether there is a chance that these things could be happening even today. The doctor made some really bad choices with the delivery of his babies and it would haunt him for the rest of his life and affect his family in many negative ways. Even though it is a somewhat dark novel, it is written in a sensitive way and the author brought in many charming ideas throughout his work, eg. the wooden heart!

Thank you Readingtrix, I am reading this with mixed feelings and i find the whole concept to dreadful to contemplate, but am hoping that there is a happy ending here.
