Not great!

Amazon review
I've read several other books by Amanda Brookfield and as 'Alice Alone' is her first one, in my humble opinion, she has developed so much since then! However, this is still a very involving novel, but it almost makes you fear getting older! The story centres upon Alice, a fifty-something lady who has been married for many years and whose youngest daughter has just flown the nest. Alice then realises that she doesn't love her husband at all and has just been plodding along because her children were the only reason to do so. She cannot envisage another 30 years or so with him and is desperately wondering what she should do, as her whole life has centred around her children and she is lost without them now. Alice sort of accidentally has an affair and, for a while, this new man takes up much of her thoughts. Later, however, events take a new and very different turn. This is a story that is very gentle on the brain, but one that is very enjoyable at the same time. Read and enjoy!
