What a wonderful book. I love the way the author weaved the story and traditions of Christmas in their historical context.

Just received this one in the mail today, I have two and 3/4 bookrings ahead of this one, so it will be a couple weeks until I get it onto the next reader. In the meantime, I've already PMed guinaveve asking for her address. Collegelady, thanks for mailing this to me and booklady331 thanks for including me on this ring.
Tried to read this one and I couldn't get into it, I gave it almost 60 pages and it still didn't catch me. I've decided that life is too short to try to force myself to finish a book for the sake of finishing it, this is the first time I have done this and feel a little empowered by this. Over the years there have been other books I wanted to do this with but I've never been able to. I already have guinaveve's address so I will be mailing this out a little later this week, I'll JE again when I do that.

I loved the idea behind this book- the history of Christmas told from the perspective of Santa Claus himself! It was fun to read an be reminded of the historical facts that I have heard over the years and learn new things too. Thanks for sharing this booklady331. I have the address of the next participant and will get this in the mail tomorrow.

Very very cute. I LOVE Christmas and it was great to see where everything started. There were some interesting things about history in the book. I enjoyed reading how they kept changing the calendar and that is one of the reasons we do not know Jesus' exact birth date. Well, now I can't wait until Christmas to see what toys Santa will bring my kids this year!! :)

Santa Claus is safe in Colorado. I keep hoping for some Christmas like weather, however, we are still stuck in "how hot is it?" land.
I finished reading this yesterday, and so as not spoil anything for anyone after me, please highlight for my thoughts!
Within the first few chapters I was loving this book, and had plans to purchase a copy for everyone I knew. But then, I kept reading. A good amount of the middle chapters could be taken out. Repeating the same thing. I read a few of the Amazon reviews, and the people who didn't like it didn't because of the mentioning of war, and how Santa doesn't deliver to war torn countries (he loses his powers there). That is not one of my complaints, although I wish war didn't exist, it does, and many times the children there don't get to celebrate Christmas (or really any holiday) as they should. This book explains why those children don't get the presents -- and some of the people's reviews made it sound like Santa was a bad guy. Um, its a book -- a story. However, I too did have moments where it really did feel like an autobiography, so perhaps it really is??
Things I noted that made me smile...Santa mentions early on that he enjoys goat cheese -- one of the traditional gifts from my grandma has always been a hunk of goat cheese (one for her, one for me, as we were the only members of the family who really enjoyed it)
Also...Santa's favorite recipe is included in the book, for Fried Chicken. When I was a kid, we did the usual of leaving cookies, but we also left Fried Chicken (our traditional Christmas Eve dinner) and mashed potatoes for Santa. I guess my mom must have been in touch with dear Santa and knew what he really liked :-)
I enjoyed this book a lot. Thanks for starting the ring, and including me!!

This was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in the past few months. I loved the whole premise of the story and am looking forward to reading "How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas. Thanks so much for including me.

October 31st. Well I have to say i really liked this book, it explained a lot of things, and although i do have younger children, I may wait until they are teens to let them read this book, as it may disappoint them. Enjoyable read, I could handle everything and I loved it, will be PMing next person in line!

I loved hearing Santa's side of the story & how he got all his helpers & how the reindeer fly

Pkboo gave me this book a few weeks ago and I've just now had time to journal on it! I enjoyed reading this book and learning a bit about the history of Christmas and history in general.
I will pass this book on to cheeseball in a few days.
