Arrived in the CD only book box. I am leaving it in the box. round 2 will be starting soon.
Decided to try this from booklady's all CD audio box.
Finished this last night.
Excellent, I thought, although very very creepy and could disturb your sleep. It is a first-person account of a detective’s 20 year efforts to solve the “Green River Murders” in Washington state. It was very interesting, including things you might not expect such as the politics and financing of a criminal task force and the realities of teenage prostitution. The reader of the audiobook, Dennis Boutsikaris, was also excellent.
Many insights into the mind of a psychopathic serial sex killer who murdered more than 50 young girls and women of the streets. Tapes of Sheriff David Reichert’s interviews with Ted Bundy (Florida serial killer I am familiar with) and the Green River killer are excerpted on this audiobook, in which the Reichert flatters and “bonds with” these criminals in order to get into their thoughts.
Reichert [pictured above] is now a U.S. Congressman. I wish he had shared more about the personal side of dealing with such horror up close, as a person of faith and a family man. Did these experiences deepen his faith? Did he have crises of faith? How did it impact his two daughters? But I guess this is another story, and perhaps too private to expose. (He hints that is was very tough and becomes choked with emotion in the end-or-audiobook interview.)
Update 09/13/08: Sending this out in Carlissa's aidiobook box (Round #3).

I've not read much true crime, although I've usually enjoyed those I have read, so I'm going to give this one a try -- looks interesting!
Written from the point of view of the main investigator of the Green River homicides, this presents the process of identifying the numerous victims, tracking down the killer, then bringing him to justice. Though you can tell the story is somewhat biased toward the investigator's point of view, it gives a fairly good description of the 20-year process involved, from the point of the first recovered bodies until the sentencing. This audio version is interesting in that it includes live recordings of interviews with the killer, as well as an interview with serial-killer Ted Bundy; however, the quality of the audio is poor & somewhat difficult to truly appreciate. While I'm sure there are probably better-written true crime stories out there, this was satisfactory in that it educated me & makes me want to view the Lifetime movie based on this account.
Sending off to PBS member. Enjoy! :')
