This book is to be sent on a secret mission...Shhh, don't tell anyone;)

From the Back Cover:
It's an icy night in Northern Sweden, and Joel, unable to sleep, is drawn outside to haunt the streets. He finds the night-time activity of his stolid town mesmerizing in its unexpectedness and variety. But can he deal with the knowledge that he gains about his neighbours, his father, and himself?

About the Author:
Henning Mankell is the prize-winning and internationally acclaimed author of the Inspector Wallander Mysteries, now dominating bestseller lists throughout Europe. He devotes much of his free time to working with Aids charities in Africa, where he has a second home.

The book just arrived in the beautiful Belgian Ardennes!

On my way out with the garbage this morning I saw the mailman coming and immediately recognized the familiar French "La Poste" sticker on one of the packages that he was about to deliver. Not expecting anything from France at the moment, I thought it would be for one of my neighbours! But it wasn't!

Aren't unexpected surprises the best! I guess we all have that small child still inside of us and we should cherish it!

Thanks so much. You shouldn't have, chich, and I mean it.

Looking forward to reading this. It has been on my wishlist for ages. I have read most of Mankell's books in the "Inspector Kurt Wallander" series and loved them. This is supposed to be something quite different (Teens/young adults).

This is such a charming, magical little story. Although it takes place during a long, cold and dark winter in Northern Sweden, it leaves you with such a pleasant, warm feeling inside, when - in the end - spring finally arrives.

An open but happy ending for 11, almost 12-year-old Joel who has struggled with all kinds of worries and uncertainties after his mother had left his father and him, to go back South alone. He misses her, but he somehow misses his physically still present dad too....

Funny coincidence: When I almost finished reading, chich's ray The Book of Lost Things arrived. I just started reading it this afternoon. It looks like I will stay captured in the magical world of a boy a bit longer, as this turns out to be........about 12-year-old David, who..... misses his mum.

There is a sequel: "Shadows in the Twilight". I have put it on my wishlist.
