The first book in the King of Ys series. This book is a fascinating blend of history, legend, and fantasy. This book was clearly heavily researched and includes numerous footnotes explaining the authors' interpretations. In this first book of the series, we are introduced to our protagonist and the city-state of Ys. This book sets the stage for the rest of the series and starts slow, but it provides a wealth of historical detail about the waning days of the Roman Empire.
