Journal Entry 1 by pzarks from Portland, Oregon USA on Sunday, October 21, 2007
"WANTED: ONE HUMAN By slightly vulgar, occasionally foul-mouthed, literate, impatient and self-centered, senior citizen male, desiring good companion. Drinking and smoking preferred, but will consider pool-playing practising Druid with green thumb... Widower Kenneth Lyon was only half-serious when he placed this ad in the "Personals" column. With a long-planned biography of Mark Twain still unfinished and the bittersweet memories of a daughter who disappeared, Professor Lyon had begun to feel the loneliness associated with age and unfulfilled promises. Salvation appears at the door in the form of a feisty, cigar-smoking actress and her five-year-old daughter. Before long, Lyon, Nadya, and little Rosemary form an unlikely but loving family unit, and Lyon resumes work on the biography with the spirit of Samuel Clemens hovering close by. But the happy arrangement is threatened by a psychotic student with revenge (and Rosemary) on his mind: Ladybug, Ladybug Fly away home Your house is on fire Your children alone... And Lyon learns that history is bound to repeat itself."
