Journal Entry 1 by LastEdition on Sunday, October 14, 2007
Synopsis (fantasticfiction.com): This title introduces Israel Armstrong, one of literature's most unlikely detectives in the first of a series of novels from the author of the critically acclaimed "Ring Road". Israel is an intelligent, shy, passionate, sensitive sort of soul: he's Jewish; he's a vegetarian; he could maybe do with losing a little weight. And he's just arrived in Ireland to take up his first post as a librarian. But the library's been shut down and Israel ends up stranded on the North Antrim coast driving an old mobile library. There's nice scenery, but 15,000 fewer books than there should be. Who on earth steals that many books? How? When would they have time to read them all? And is there anywhere in this godforsaken place where he can get a proper cappuccino and a decent newspaper? Israel wants answers... ------------------------------------- Much as I tried I found this one hard going ...

Journal Entry 4 by Cassiopeia22 from Hamburg, Hamburg Germany on Thursday, November 08, 2007
So, I finished it! I liked this book, it made me laugh a lot. I loved the characters and the most times inane dialogues, which at the same time showed so much about the people, their intention and so on. The only thing I didn´t like was the ending, I don´t want to say why at this point for I don´t want to spoil anyone. But I often don´t like endings of books, though I liked the book in general. It was a very good read and I´m excited what others will think of it. Now the book is going to go to the Netherlands, have fun with it!

Journal Entry 6 by franaloe from Zürich, Zürich Switzerland on Sunday, December 02, 2007
Finished the book, but with a lot of afford...I found the beginning too slow, the main character too stupid, unintelligent and annoying (which later, at one point, actually became funny), and the development of the story was just frustrating. However...as mentioned before, I did finish it, I had to laugh out loud at one point (page 245 as far as I can recall), and it was an OK read for in the train. But I can imagine LastEdition found it a hard one. I'll PM ana-b now for her address so the book can move on! Lastedition, thanks for starting this ray after all! All the best, franaloe

I really enjoyed this book. The strange characters, the bizarre dialogues, the silly story. There are no phychological or philosophical layers, just a straight forward told story, but an enjoyable one. I'll send the book to the next person in this ring as soon as I receive the address.

I finished the book last evening, and I found it an easy reading, which made me laugh out loud several times... This said, I think that some characters are maybe to caricatural to my taste... I'd like to see what becomes of all of them in the following stories, though... I requested MaryZee's address, and will send the book as soon as I have it

A nice, lite read, something you need sometimes. An enjoyable read, although like others, I didn't care for the solution to the mystery. A rather lovable, bumbling protagonist, lovable, quirky characters, and a charming setting in northern Ireland, though. Thanks for sharing this book, LastEdition. I'd heard of Ian Sansom before, but never had a chance to read anything by him, and I always enjoy books about books, libraries, reading, etc. Mailed Tuesday, 2/19 to Thursday5. This is my 8th release in the 2008 Keep Them Moving challenge.

We had freezing rain on top of snow yesterday and the driveway was a sheet of ice. I debated if it was worth sliding down the hill to the mailbox but I'm glad I decided to go because this book was in the mailbox! I started it last night and couldn't put it down. Should finish it tonight. I'll send a PM to the next reader.

well goodness, that was not my kind of book really at all. I am sorry I took so long to read it, but I had to keep pushing myself to go back. That said, in the end, just at the last few chapters, I was feeling kind of nostalgic about it. Sigh. I will certainly not read anymore of this author. I think. Still I am always happy to be part of a bookring and see what other people think about things. I will be pming BellaMack to send it on.

The book is now taking its rather seasick protagonist off to Australia and BellaMack, I hope you enjoy it. By the way, I forgot to thank Thursday5 and LastEdition for the chance to read a book that I am sure that I would never have seen otherwise. Thanks!

Definitely quirky characters. I found Israel annoying, but that could just be my present mood, I'm operating on little sleep and stressful work days.
