Read this a while ago and quite enjoyed it.
I liked the shiny cover. lol, must have been the painkillers. Still, it looks a good read when I actually read the blurb this morning. :)

Leeds Meet @ The Adelphi pub in Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Released 16 yrs ago (3/11/2008 UTC) at Leeds Meet @ The Adelphi pub in Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Off to find a new reader.
This is being released as part of my own challenge to release another 500 books by 28/09/10, my progress can be tracked on http://101ofawolf.blogspot.com/.
If you're a local we'd love to see you at the monthly Leeds Bookcrosser meet, we're a friendly group who like swapping books over a couple of drinks. Check us out on our homepage - http://bookcrossing.meetup.com/9/. :)
Alan Hollinghurst's first novel is a tour de force: a darkly erotic work that centres on the friendship of William Beckwith, a young gay aristocrat who leads a life of privilege and promiscuity, and the elderly Lord Nantwich, who is searching for someone to write his biography.
Picked up at the Leeds meetup. I really enjoyed The Line of Beauty so I'm looking forward to this one :)
Reserved for bookray

Edited to add: Sent out 2nd class 27th Feb
Received yesterday in the post, will start on it asap.
I quite enjoyed this book. Thought it was very similar to The Line of Beauty but I liked that book as well so didn't mind too much! Had a tendancy to be very graphic in places, which I don't think would be to everyone's taste. Plot also confused me in places, but overall a good book.
Posting to Jozebedee this weekend/early next week.

I couldn't put this book down! A witty and imaginative story, also funny, emotive and thought provoking. This doesn't disappoint as a 1001 book like some others. Looking forward to reading more Alan Hollinghurst which I have in mount TBR! Posting off now to perfect-circle who is next on the list.
Thanks shnedwards for starting this ring :-)
Arrived safely today and is next on mount tbr. Thanks!
I'm afraid I can't agree with this book's previous readers, I did not like this. The writing was sharp and witty and whilst the sex scenes were graphic, this didn't really bother me. I did, however, find William a shallow character that I just couldn't connect with and as the book went on, I became less and less interested in his exploits.
Thank you, shnedwards, for the chance to read this and crossing another book of that list. This will be off to cally-c but most likely not till I get back off holiday next week.
This has just dropped onto the doormat!
I'll read it next.
I found the book quite easy to read, but I couldn't get on with any of the characters, like perfect-circle, I found them very shallow & lost interest in them. Liked the story though!
Thanks for sending this on perfect-circle & also thanks to shnedwards for sharing.

off to Danielle23 this morning.
The book has arrived safely and will be read as soon as possible. I have 3 other rings before it but promise I won't keep it too long. Thanks for sharing shnedwards and posting it on so quickly cally-c xx
Finished this book today and quite enjoyed it. I enjoyed the exploration of gay relationships but missed the conclusions reagarding Arthur and Colin which would have made it better for me. A good 1001 book though and I'm pleased to have read it, thanks for sharing xx

Off to stubee and KT-J the next in line for this book. I hope you both enjoy it xx
Thanks Danielle23 for sending this on! I've got another couple of rays in front of this one but I'll get onto to it soon.
EDIT: 2nd August 2009 - I started this a few days ago but haven't got too far with it as yet. The character of William has certainly piqued my interested though.
EDIT: 13th August 2009 - I've finished this novel and I must say I enjoyed it. The sex scenes are very graphic and I agree it probably won't be to everyone's taste; however I feel these scenes are necessary to get the sense of feeling for the often frantic promiscuous lives of gay men and the society that William Beckwith kept. I guess you could say that Will is shallow and he deserves his comeuppance but I also feel that he was lead into this life and can't be blamed for acting in the same way as everyone around him.
All in all an enjoyable read; thanks shnedwards for sharing. I've passed this onto KT-J to read.
Next:
Alan Sillitoe - Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

I'm not sure what to say about this. I found it quite an interesting read and the storyline with Charles Nantwich was interesting. However, I didn't really like any of the characters, particularly Will, and I found the lack of resolution with Arthur, Colin and Phil frustrating.
Another 1001 book I'm glad to have read but I didn't find it particularly enjoyable!
Thanks shnedwards for sharing another book. We have fushmush's address so this will be posted on shortly.

Off to fushmush, hope you enjoy.
Arrived today. I have two books ahead of it. Thanks for sharing!
What a beautifully written book. It definitely wasn’t a chore to read at all. I enjoyed this insight into a young, rich gay man’s lifestyle in the 1980s.
Juxtaposed with this beautiful writing is the very graphic material. I was a bit embarrassed to read this on public transport. It was a bit surreal to be reading very explicit gay sex scenes on the tube.
One of the more enjoyable 1001 books.

Arrived in today's mail. Thank you fushmush, and shnedwards for sharing your books. I've got one and a half ahead of this one, and have been a bit slower in my reading habit of late, but I shouldn't be too long.

An interesting look into the life of Will Beckwith and his many conquests. I think the lack of conclusions with some of the characters highlighted the shallowness of the relationships perfectly.
On to Dave in tomorrow's mail.
Just recieved this one today. should be an interesting read. Thanks to Cat207 and Shnnedwards
Just finished this one tonight. A very interesting look into the life of aristocratic gays. Beautiful prose throughout, so much better than 'Line of Beauty'. Posting to Bug2004 as soon as I get an address.
