Breakfast at Tiffany's

Based on Truman Capote's 1958 novella of the same title, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S (1961) is the story of a woman on her own making her way in the big city. As stories go, it is short on plot but rich in characterization which may explain why its protagonist, Holly Golightly, has become Audrey Hepburn's most memorable screen persona. In the hands of director Blake Edwards, the film neglects much of the book's foreboding edge, but gains an unforgettable comedic touch which actually helps accentuate the darker moments. In addition, Henry Mancini's musical score and Hubert de Givenchy's gowns for Ms. Hepburn successfully uphold Capote's style when the story itself is forced to leave his writing behind. Like the protagonist at its heart, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S is quirky, funny, bewildering, serious, sophisticated and bittersweet -- and as movies go, great entertainment.

Thanks a lot! I really will enjoy this and will be back with a comment as soon as it´s done.
I like Holly Golightly and her way of tackling life. I liked the story very well and remembering that it was written in 1958 it shows the finger to many taboos.
Thanks a lot for passing this book on stormon. It has to wait abit before I'll find the time to read it - and afterwars it is off to sota48.
I liked the story really well, and I do think it has managed to survive for 50 years. Whether I really liked Holly or not, is debatable. Her easy look on life, love and friendship would be a trial to anyone coming close to her I think.
My favourite story though, was "A Christmas Memory". A lovely description about the friendship between two distant cousins ,one a seven-year old and the other a sixty-something, who live together. The older one was a child at heart and had never:
- been to the movie
- eaten in a restaurant
- travelled more than five miles form home
- recieved or sent a telegram
- read anything, apart from the funny papers and the Bible
- worn cosmetics
- cursed
- wished someone harm
- told a lie on purpose
- let a hungry dog starve
... but she had done some rather amazing things and you'll have to read the story to get to know them.
The book is travelling again soon, but it needs a bit of surgery first as it is falling to bits.

Thanks a lot! The book arrived today. Is it anything like the film, I wonder.... Looks like I'm the last in line, so it shall have to rest in my TBR for a while.
I'm not sure I liked it all that much.....

Book's with me! Will be read and passed on to Jannike. :-) Thank you!!
Eek! I've read this book now, quite a while ago actually, have just been forgetting to journal it. Better late than never. :-) It was a pretty good read, didn't have much of a lasting impact on me, but enjoyable while it lasted. :-)
I will bring the book to meetup this afternoon in the hopes of seeing Jannike there.

Believe it or not but this book is still with me ... !! And I have of course met Jannike x number of times over the past however many years it's been. Shame on me! :-( I don't know if she's still interested in this. The book will go with me to the BookCrossing convention here in Oslo next month, and she can pick it up there if she still wants it. :-)
