This classic novel shows the effect of one single passionate act on the lives of three people in a small New England town of the early nineteenth century.

10 out of 10

I finished this tonight, what an amazing book, would never have read this if it wasn't for the 1001-library and of course tabby-cat-owner! Since it was first published in 1850, the language took a little while to get used to, although a short book this slowed my reading somewhat, once I got into the rhythm I was fine. This was quite a tragic and heart wrenching story set among a Puritan community of New England, probably in the late 1600's. What I found so enthralling was that this wasn't an historical novel written by a present day writer but one written over one hundred and fifty years ago!

Thank you tabby-cat-owner for making this available, I hope someone else will want to read it now.
